Antique Aka Raku Chawan by greatest Kichizaemon Tan-nyu, ennobled with a REAL kintsugi gold repair.

Half cylinder shaped (Hanzutsu) tea bowl with a rounded brim, in the typical hand built style of the Raku family. The body is fully covered with a white engobe before the red glaze was applied.

Superb museum quality carved Chinese wood brise fan with deeply worked guard sticks and finely done inner sticks carved equally to both sides of lovely scenes. Larger than most brise fans, it also still has its original hand carved presentation box fitted in silk. Made in Canton, China for the export market, the fan and box dates circa 1870-1880. Condition is wonderful to both and a must have for the collector. Fan length 9.5" x fully opened 16.5" with case being 12.5" long x 2.5" x 2.5"

Archaic Chinese bronze bowl with rounded sides and flared rim. Cast with a ring foot. The outer body of the bowl is cast with two bands of repeating patterns interrupted by two handles, one one each side. The handles are taotie masks with loose rings. Beautiful green patination and mineral deposits.

Antique Chinese large cabinet. Beautifully lacquered with scenes of birds and flowers in gold on a red lacquer ground. Large doors open to reveal a compartment with two shelves. The top shelf has two small built in drawers. The sides of the cabinet are lacquered black. Dates from the 18th century. Size: 70 1/4" high x 44" wide x 20 1/4" deep.

This is good-quality Noren used in the merchant's family of the Yamagata Shounai district for Edo period. The figure pattern of a wave and the plover means a good combination of attractive harmony. Merchants of Shonai thought about the harmony with local people to the first. And there was the harmony of a merchant and the farmer there. The good-quality hemp was dyed in Tsutsugaki. Important Antique Japanese Buddhist Pilgrim's coat. Buddhist monks would embark on a pilgrimage to travel temple to temple. Upon arriving to each temple, the monk would bathe before giving offerings and reciting prayers as well as receive a stamp distinctive to each temple. Normally a monk would carry around a special stamp book however it is not unusual to stamp the monk's coat as seen here.

A sublime calligraphy scroll having a Chinese attribution. The rough and swift strokes of the calligraphy can be seen as if movement is caught frozen in time. The calligraphy reads as an auspicious poem where the poet is using the flow of water in relation to the spread and development of the family with generation after generation of children. Antique Japanese lacquer Tebako, cosmetic box. Made of lacquered wood and decorated all over with scenes of flying geese in gold lacquer with raised details on a black lacquer ground, Silver lacquer bull rushes with golden leaves bend in the wind. Antique Japanese isho tansu (clothing chest) from the Sendai or Iwayado area of Japan. The front of the tansu is made all of kiri (paulownia) wood and it has it's original finish and patina. Antique Japanese carved wooden theatre fox mask (kyogen mask) with a movable jaw that would be opened and closed by the wearer's mouth. The eyes are painted in gold while the face is painted in white lacquer with red pigment accents. A fierce scowling expression is carved into the face.
