Thick cotton, Katazome stencil dye, aizome Japanese indigo dye with beni flowers. 70 1/2" x 13". The width changes to 12 1/2 after 39 1/2" where the fabric is torn. One 1/2" round stain (at 20 inches from torn end). Weakened at the seam (visible in some area from reverse side).

Conditions: Glaze degradations because found from under water, very small chipped at the rim, no crack, free from any repair.

Ashallowed stoneware bowl tapering to a raised ring foot, decorated with
brushed white slip inlaid with a centural medallion containing a flowerhead
surrounded by bands of “rope-curtain” design and multiful ring patern,
the exterior decotated with also mutiful white slip ring inlays,
beneath a pale celadon glaze.
It’s in fine condition except 2 hair line cracks...

The Hiramaki-e technique, which dates from the latter part of the Heian Period (794-1185), was preceded by Togidashi maki-e, a technique in which not only the design, but the whole surface is covered with clear lacquer after the sprinkling of metal powder. The lacquer is then polished down to reveal the design.
The Japanese letter box is decorated in low relief of mountainous terrain and a stylized linear mist or cloud line...
A fine portrait-image of Tsongkapa (1357–1419), the founder of the Gelugpa School of Tibetan Buddhism. Brownish bronze alloy with a high content of copper. Tibet, 17th century. H 14 cm. Fully sealed with original closing. Condition: Some rubbing to gold, and sword on the right shoulder missing.

Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan, a region of nowadays western Iran in the Zagros mountains.

DESCRIPTION: A good Chinese scholar’s brushpot, carved in deep relief with a continuous mountain landscape scene framed by gnarled pine trees and depicting two groups of scholars, some examining a scroll and others in a boat. The base and rim are encased in hardwood and the pot is engraved with a two line inscription. Very good condition, latter Qing Dynasty, 19th to early 20th C. DIMENSIONS: 6 ½” high (16.5 cm) x 6” diameter (15.2 cm).
