This is an 18th century Japanese netsuke depicting a sleeping Sarumawashi or monkey trainer, who is unaware that the monkey trainer that he carries on his back is about to steal food from the trainer's basket. Excellent carving with lively expressions. beautiful wear and mellow patina. Deep, uneven himotoshi, common of netsuke from this period. Unsigned. This is a fine, 18th century Japanese Netsuke depicting a monk laying on top of Hotei's Bag of Treasures. Wonderful expression with beautiful patina, what has torn golden from use on the bottom. Unsigned. Netsuke measures 1.88 inches (4.8cm) wide, 1.22 inches (3.1cm) deep, and, 0.92 inches (2.4cm) tall. It is in excellent condition.

A scholar's drum shaped porcelain water pot for calligraphy which doubles as a scroll or paper weight when not in use. The top is decorated with a depiction of the sun and there is a line of tiny raised dots around the top and bottom representing drum nail heads. In good antique condition with a few nicks around top inner edge and expected amount of wear to raised areas. Measures 3.25" diameter x 1.5". Circa 1700's
