A Japanese carved and lacquered wood figure of a Buddhist Guardian. (Originally part of a small scale group comprised of at least a central figure and pair of acolytes.) Up to 12 such guardian figures are possible in a temple grouping. Condition is good and presentable with one small loss of wood to one sleeve and some minor lacquer losses. Missing are a nimbus and possibly an ornament atop the helmet. Height: 9 3/8 inch (23.8cm) including a 3/16 (1.9cm) inch high base to which it is affixed.

A 19th century Japanese kyodai (mirror stand) comprised of the stand on two drawer chest. Decorated with gold hiramaki-e and nashiji lacquer techniques depicting pines, prunus and grasses in rocky landscape. The prunus blossoms rendered in oxidized silver haku-e with gold details. Beautiful antique bowl from the late Southern Song/ Yuan Dynasty, 12-14th century. The bottom of the bowl is applied with two scaly fish. The bowl is covered overall with a sea green tone glaze that is paler on raised areas. It measures 1.75" high by 5.25" wide.

Rare Japanese Tansu made of inlaid woods with lacquer panels. Beautifully inlaid with wood in designs of fans and japanese symbols. The inside has black with gold landscape scenes. A Fine Blue and White Porcelain Globular Jar: Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th century The small jar of globular form resting on a ring foot and with an upright neck ending in a straight cut lip, painted in underglaze blue with two Buddha hands around the body, below a color of clouds, the clear glaze thick wih a blue tinges. It has two chips around the rim, otherwise fine condition with a clean foot. Measurements; 14cm h. x 15.2cm d. (5 1/2” x 6”).

A rare Ming dynasty 15th century blue and white twin mandarin duck ewer, mandarin duck shape with raising head and unglazed base, ewer decorated with under glaze blue of duck detailed, very rare with one of the duck head rested on the body.
Ewer is in good condition with small restoration on the duck mouth, no crack, very rare duck shape.
Size: 10 cm wide from mouth to tail, 8 cm height.

This antique Chinese rectangular serving tray is elaborately inlayed with Mother of Pearl. The ornate MOP design covers the surface of the tray and also goes about the exterior face of the narrow rim. Wood is most likely ebony and tray dates from mid 18th century.

Condition: All the MOP inlay is intact but there are numerous tiny nicks and chips in the surface finish on the inside and outside edges of the rim surround...

A Very Fine White Nephrite Jade Hair Pin: China, 19th century This is a very beautifully carved floriform shaped head incised with a “Shou” character in the centrer and suround by floral petals and Ruyi form, the smooth curving stem, of a white nephrite hair pin in very fine quality. It’s in very fine condition without any damages at all. Measurement; 12.5cm x2.9cm

This is a suo kamishimo ( top and bottom which were a formal kimono for samurai in Edo period ). The occasion when this suo kamishimo was worn is not clear ( ceremony or stage ). This suo kamishimo is made by hand-plied and hand-woven asa ( hemp ) cloth with bold tatewaku pattern which is katazome ( stencil-dyeing ). It has round bunches of asa threads for ornaments which are called "kiku-toji" or "kikuji". In excellent condition except for a small moth holes and a rip ( 11th and 12th photos )...

Statue of Buddha, in monk's robes, eyes half closed, his hands in "abhiseka mudra", sitting cross-legged on a double lotus throne. Bronze, with large remnants of the original gilding and dark, reddish-green encrusted patina. China, Yuan or early Ming Dynasty, 14th century. Height: 7 3/8" (18,8 cm). Good condition. NOTE: "abhiseka mudra" is the mudra (hands posture) of anointing. It is very rarely seen in Buddha statues.

A rare and unusual archaic style Jade carving in the form of a "double bird" You. There is a late Shang dynasty bronze You of similar form, described as a Xiao You (Owl You) in the collection of Shanxi Museum, Shanxi Province. This item was exhibited in the Royal Academy, 1973, and can be seen on page 72 of "The Genius of China" (ISBN 0 7230 0107 3). We have, as yet, been unable to date our jade and can only suggest that it was probably made circa 1500 - 1900 during either the late Ming or Qin...
