An excarvated head carved in very hard and dense black stone, in the round with oversized ears and pronounced arched eyebrows and downcast eyes. The head superbly polished, still with traces of the ancient carving methods and a deeply encrusted or embedded earthern patina.

The head is mounted on a modern and very attractive black marple base.

Antique Japanese set of five lotus leaves and blossoms. Carved of wood and lacquered silver. Made for a Buddhist altar, these leaves and blossoms symbolize the stages of the path toward enlightenment. Every petal of the lotus flower is carved separately. Each blossom and leaf comes fitted with a custom metal stand so they can be rearranged at will.

An antique Japanese Tansu chest made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Original hand forged iron hardware with an age old replacement lock on the bottom drawer. Hirute style drawer handles. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery with hardened wooden nails. With two side Warabite carrying handles.

Used by a merchant to store valuable small items and money.

Antique Japanese Shō, mouth organ (flute) used in Gagaku (classical performances traditionally for the imperial court). A musician blows through the silver lined protruding mouthpiece. The air travels through the bamboo tubes creating notes (said to sound like the Ho bird or phoenix). Skillful musicians are able to blow air in and out of the mouth pieces creating sustained, uninterrupted notes.
The arrangement of bamboo tubes are said to resemble the folded wings of the phoenix...

Chinese Qing dynasty Kangxi marked baluster form cabinet vase densely decorated in underglaze blue on a white porcelain ground with four vertical rectangular landscape panels surrounded by a background of flowers floating on water. Geometric bands at the top rim. Slightly flared base and unglazed stepped foot. A robust and well executed six-character kaishu Kangxi period mark in a double ring is on the glazed base. 6 3/4" high. Possibly of the period and no later than circa 1900...

The deity is represented seated surrounded by his multiple arms holding various attributes. Excellent quality of sculpture, on its skull multiple small heads (10+1) pegged, pretty draping, beautiful facial expression, the eyes and the third frontal eye in glass or rock crystal. Thick, solid lacquer, beautiful gilding. Avalokitesvara wears all her jewelry. Complete set with its glory and its original base...

Chinese Qing dynasty Yongzheng to Qianlong period deep dish decorated in underglaze blue on a white porcelain ground with a long scaled four-clawed dragon at the center front extending over the rim from the reverse to chase a flaming pearl among clouds...

An antique Japanese Kasane Tansu (2 section Kimono chest) made of Kiri (Paulownia) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. All original hand forged iron hardware including the Hirute handles and Urushi lacquered body. Lock plates shaped in the form of the auspicious Paulownia leaf. Upper section has 2 drawers and a hinged safety door with two small drawers behind. Lower section has 2 full width drawers.

An antique Japanese temple plaque made from one large solid block of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood. Hand carved on both sides. One side depicts ocean waves which represents polar opposite ideas of peaceful tranquility and powerful ferocity. The opposite side features Sunflowers representing warmth and longevity and Chrysanthemums symbolizing immortality.

There are four protruding grooved square posts, one per corner that adds a decorative element. Hardware has brass mounts. Through mortise and tenon joinery construction and a beautiful patina acquired over its history. Front slatted moldings and 2 panel replacements using Jichimu wood...

An antique Japanese Tansu chest in 3 sections called Ishodansu made of Tochi (Horse Chestnut) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. This chest was used for Kimono and clothes storage. Original bronze hardware and wiped lacquer finish. The front has a smooth channeled frame. Behind the sliding doors of the upper section lies a small drawer to the left and a corner shelf to the right side. Center section has 3 drawers and the bottom section has 2 drawers...
