Attractive Djet pillar amulet in green faience, late period, c. 7th.-3rd. century BC.

Provenance: Formerly in the private collection of Eberhard Hanfstaengl (1886-1973). He was a famous German Art director and head of the Berlin National Gallery as well as other higher positions. Educated as Art Historian. Comes with COA.

Lao tse on his buffalo. The clay is a reddish-brown color. There are traces of polychromy. Although it is an object of modest size and simple form, it is worth noting the quality of the sculpture, indeed the expression of the face of the philosopher although quickly and summarily executed by a few stabs by the artist is superbly expressive, her body is slightly bent by the weight of years and the fatigue of the journey...

Statue of a guardian, with a large mustache, wearing a turban --- suggesting that the man belongs to the Sikh community --- and a uniform. Wood, with strong abrasion due to great age. India, 18th/19th century. Height: 37 cm. The statue is mounted on a custom stand. Arms and feet missing, otherwise good condition.

Lovely Edwardian Art Nouveau sterling silver picture frame. Made by Mauser Mfg. Co. in New York, ca 1900. Oval window in same surround. Front has engraved leafing scrollwork and tubular cartouche (vacant) at top; sides plain. Open bracket supports. With glass, silk lining, and red velvet back and hinged easel support for portrait (vertical) display. Fully marked including maker’s stamp and no. 1418A. Very good condition.

Rare Large Chinese Neolithic Pottery Jar - Caiyuan Culture

This fine and attractively-shaped pottery jar was made over 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Caiyuan Culture (c. 2600 - 2200 BC) and has been excavated from the Ningxia Autonomous Region in the north of China. Absolutely beautiful, very heavy, sterling tray.  It measures 22" long x 14 1/2" wide x 1" tall and weighs 2045 grams.  It is heavily decorated with flowers and leaves.  It is marked on the bottom "sterling" with what appears to be a beehive.  It is rare to find a sterling tray of this weight and beauty.

A matching set of six hand-made late Victorian 5-1/4" cut crystal wine glasses with fine teal coloured bowls. They have fine hand-cut stems, faceted bottoms on the bowls and applied bases. The bowls have subtle striations and the occasional bubble. They are unsigned but of superb quality. This set is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, damage or repairs...

 

A very rare early and finely decorated blue underglazed 3.5" porcelain container bearing the mark of Dohachi I, father of Japanese porcelain.

Condition: Excellent, no chips, hairlines or restoration. The pierced wooden lid, which appears to once have had a nob, has a chip to the underside.
