Antique Japanese Buddhist Pilgrim's coat. Buddhist monks associated with the teachings of Kukai (or Kobo Daishi) would embark on a pilgrimage to visit the 88 temples on the island of Shikoku. Upon arriving to each temple, the monk would bathe before giving offerings and reciting prayers as well as receive a stamp distinctive to each temple. Normally a monk would carry around a special stamp book however it is not unusual to stamp the monk's coat as seen here...

This set of 6 porcelain demitasse cups and saucers was produced in France by M. Redon Limoges between 1882 and 1896. The saucers have a diameter of 4 1/2 inches and the cups are 2 1/8 inches high. They are decorated with a factory transfer of bright pink roses and garlands of foliage. The handles and rims are trimmed with gold. Condition: There is barely visible wear to the gilded rims of a couple of the cups. Considering their age, it is very slight.

19th century netsuke in manju (rice cake) shape carved with an image of Fukurokuju (one of the 7 Gods of Good Fortune) pulling a fox costume mask onto his head and holding a 9-tailed whip in his hand. Whip design continues on the back showing an attendant boy, one hand raised in amazement, the other holding a fan. Very unusual subject of a Lucky God as an actor, the whip is a clear reference to a mythical nine-tailed fox...

Our keeper ring once had hallmarks but they are worn off, so we are estimating this ring to be from the late 1890's. Our ring has plaited gold work on the underside, a work of art of itself. A "Keeper" ring is a snug fitting ring worn to prevent the loss of a more valuable ring by keeping the larger ring from sliding off. Keeper rings were also known as magic, or illusion rings, because of the illusion created by rotating the band causing it to appear to widen, to narrow, then to widen again...

19th Century Chinese Gilt Bronze Dragon Belt Buckle with Jadeite & Tourmaline

The overall measurement is 4.2 inches (10.7 cm) long by 0.9 inch (2.4 cm) wide. The jadeite range from is 20.8 mm to 34.9 mm long by 11.3 mm to 15.6 mm wide. The tourmaline is 9.4 mm long by 6.76 mm wide. It is 41.5 gram.

It has rubbing of gilt and surface wears and scratches. The jadeite and tourmaline have inclusions and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

This is a long thick zanshi cotton boro noragi from the Meiji era. The dark indigo shade is the warp, and the white thread is the weft. Thick hand-spun threads are also mixed in the weft. The hollowed transparent holes are covered with glaze to form the ever popular rice pattern. Various symbols such as the sunburst represent the Emperor and bats for good fortune, on the underside of the teacup are various Doaist symbols.
