Antique Japanese tanzaku, a long rectangular panel with beautiful calligraphy, by famous poet Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875). The poem translates into this:
This being New Year's Day, to the fields my heart is drawn,
may there be young pines to be pulled.
(Translation by Sayumi Takahashi: "BLACK ROBE WHITE MIST")

An early 'Grand Tour' style large Estate stamp seal, European, probably c. 1820-1850.
The seal cast with an heroic bust of a greek god of war, probably Ares or Athena in the classical style.
A monogram of two capital letters finely engraved in the seals base.
Size: 12,5 cm. tall and weighing 225 grams.
Condition: Nice Very fine, intact and with remnants of original silver and gilt in the details...

From our European Collection, a good 19th century hand-carved hall chair with an armorial / heraldic shield, probably Spanish in origin. The wood used is a dense and heavy hardwood which appears to be either walnut or mahogany. The chair is armless and rests upon wooden casters.

19th century aneroid desk barometer in a stunning ivory case raised on a turned pedestal and surmounted with a carved ivory bust depicting a young farm maiden. The carving is superbly done, with great attention to the girl's hair and 18th century-style lace-trimmed bonnet. Her face is charming. The ivory has a beautiful yellowed patina that has not been cleaned. The enameled dial is in French, but there is no maker's mark visible...
Finely potted porcelain dish with milky white glaze, the broad border moulded with ruyi heads. The center with fine depiction of a kirin, painted in green enamel, iron red and some gold.
