This is an extremely fine Japanese Cloisonne vase with gold wire decorations.It measures just 3 1/2 inches tall so it is much finer and more exquisite in person. It is not signed. The fine workmanship on this piece was most likely done by Hayashi Kodenji as only an elite few could have ever created such a piece. The enamel colors and character of the bird also match Hayashi's work. Condition is excellent.

18C Chinese Yongzheng Export Iron Red Boy Goat Cup and Saucer The cup and saucer are painted in iron red heightened with gilt. The flower-shaped saucer and cup are decorated with a boy playing with goats opposite a prunus branch and rockwork. The center of the cup is painted with a flower symbol. Lovely sterling silver lettuce fork in Whiting's 1896 "Dresden" pattern. The ornate design of flowers and shells compliments the elegant shape of the piece.

Iceberg lettuce, developed at the end of the 19th century, was the first leafy vegetable that would keep long enough to be transported from farms to larger cities. Consequently, lettuce was a very elegant and costly food at formal dinners.

This is a very fine and extremely rare pipe from Venezuela known as a pipas angulares de barro procedentes. There is only one book written on Aztec pipes. "Pipas Precortesianas" was written by Muriel N. Porter. Porter states that Aztec pipes are extremely scarce and "we can almost say that pipes were unknown." There is a drawing in this book of this class/type of pipe. Of course, tobacco wasn't available until the Spaniards introduced it...
