Kesa was originally made from old scraps of material donated to the priests. The scraps became finer and quite luxious in time. People who gave to Buddhist institutions were often keen to give very expensive items, so some fabulous kesas were created from wonderful silk brocades. This also could mean that the wealthier temples end up collecting the better fabrics or are able to send out for the expensive custom made kesas...

This is Indigo dye cotton dotyugi coat of the Edo era(1800-1868). It is made of hand-spun and hand-woven and natural indigo dyed cotton. It is katazome, and, as for the lining, the motif of the plover is very beautiful. It has a few thin stains. However, as a whole it is in very good condition. size:111cm x 126cm (43.7" x 49.6")

This is tsutsugaki & handwriting fireman's cotton coat sashiko hanten coat of a splendid firefighter of the late Tokugawa period of the Edo era(1800-1867). A fight of kawanakajima is a design. It is a very high technique. A samurai (takeda shingen and uesugi kenshin) and a horse are drawn and are also the uplifting feeling and the excitement which seem to begin to move shortly. And there is sashiko stitch on the entire surface by hand. As for it, length is longish with 92cm...

This is japanese Indigo dye shibori cotton kimono textile of the Meiji era(1868-1910). It has a few thin stains. However, it does not have damage.It is made of hand-spun natural indigo dyed cotton. Antique Tibetan kapala, or human skullcup, with a beautiful bronze stand. In Tibet, it was considered a great honor to have one's cranium turned into a kapala, which would be used for religious purposes. Kapalas are used in the Hindu Tantra and Buddhist religions. The skull itself is very old and is lined with nickel. The bronze stand has a beautiful lotus design, skulls going all around, the image of a kneeling worshipper, and hoof shaped feet. Stand is 18th century...

Antique Turkmen rug with a Tekke garden design in red, black, navy, cream, and tan wool. Good condition, very soft. 19th Century, Stunning Rug. Size: 52" x 50"

The saddle seat is Leather and decorated with small tuffs of wool yarn and strips of flat metal (presumed low grade silver) which are embed into the leather in an ornate geometric design.

I replaced the tie which secured the front of the seat to the metal saddle tree...the original cord was literally falling apart...Limited research indicates this saddle was from Rajastan India.

Antique Nepalese bronze bodhisatva seated on a double lotus throne. The piece has the original copper base with stamped design. The robes of the figure are skillfully incised with a beautiful cloud and scrolling vine design. The hands are in muddra as they hold a small container. Some old loses. It measures 8" tall 5 " wide 3" deep. 19th century, obtained in the 1960s in Katmandu .

A very finely carved ivory okimono of a fisherman wearing a grass apron and carrying a basket containing a fish. Additionally (within the basket) is a small bound bundle of reeds or sticks...

This unusually shaped carved bone snuff bottle is a late Meiji period (1867~1911) product. It is 2 3/4” long, 1 ¼” wide and ¾” thick. It depicts a curled shrimp as the body of snuff bottle. The bamboo spoon is a replacement. It has a great patina and is in great condition.

This is a rabbit clock of the bronze. It is the Meiji era. (1870-1990) There is no damage and it is perfect. It is a rabbit that has the throb feeling. Height27cm(10.6")33cm x 17cm(13" x 6.69")

Antique Japanese articulated figure of a praying mantis, made of bronze with copper color finish, with fully moving parts, beautifully detailed and life like, signed under wing by the artist Kozan who was famous for his articulated creatures (the Crown Prince later the Taisho Emporer was a patron of Kozan). Late Meiji Period, Provenance: from the collection of the silent film star, Phil Ingram. Size: 4" long

Japanese boxwood okimono of family of 5 octopi surrounding two octopus-catching jars. The bottom contains a signature and kao (a unique signature) by Masanao. Age Meiji period (19th century). Size: Length: 3.25" Width:2.8" Height:4.26"

This very well carved and designed Japanese ivory okimono is 5 ¾ inches high, 2 ¼ inches wide and 1 ¾ inches deep (measure from the base). It depicts a Buddha standing on the back of a dragon which is rising from an ocean wave. It has great patina. There is a red maker’s mark on the bottom. Aside from an old loss which had been re-carved and polished, it is in excellent condition.

This superb Japanese ivory okimono is 6 ¾ inches long 2 ¾ inches high and 2 ¼ inches on the widest part. It depicts 6 immortals accompanied by a dragon over the ocean...

A Japanese okimono of a tiger, fully carved out of Keyaki (elm) wood with fantastic detailing. The tiger sits hunched over with fixated eyes, fangs out, and tail wrapped tightly against its body. Signature on bottom reads : Chizan December, Meiji 18th year.

Japanese okimono of two Chinese lions one on top of each other carved of boxwood. No signature is found on the okimono. Size: Length:2.75" Width:1.5" Height:3.25".

A set of three carvings of three different types of birds. One appears to be a falcon and another a magpie like species. Each bird has been carefully carved and painted making birds to look alive. Age: 20th century. Size: length 3.75" width 1.6" height 2.25"

This 19th century Japanese ivory okimono is 4 ¾ inches high, 2 inches wide and 1 ½ inches deep. It depicts a hunter fighting a deer with a long spear. The impression of the hunter and the animal are realistic and wonderful. It is not signed. The tip of the spear has been broken. Aside from this and a few age cracks, it is in great condition.

A Royal Worcester Melon Shaped Pitcher. Floral Design on Front and Back with Gilt Handle and some Red Rubbed into the Gilt. Registration No. 125349 for 1889; Shape No. 1376. Dimensions 6" high and 18" circumference. Excellent condition.

A striking antique English porcelain coffee cup. Made at the Worcester factory during the Dr. Wall, or First Period, it is painted with the Pu Tai pattern in beautiful, bright enamels. It shows Pu-Tai, also known as the Laughing Buddha, seated, with two attendants. The cup has a slightly everted rim, a handle of the grooved loop type, and the interior border is gilded in addition to the iron red enamel.

The cup is 2 3/8" tall, with a top diameter of 2 1/8"...

A hexagonal Worcester teapot stand circa 1760 with molded chrysanthemums overlaid by blue painted blossoms which are repeated in a garland formation on the interior rim. Diameter is approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm), and height is approximately 5/8 of an inch (1.6 cm).

Condition: Slight discoloration on bottom. No chips, cracks, or repairs.

The teapot stand is an attractive shape with a nice contrast between the painting and molding.

An attractive blue & white dinner plate by Royal Worcester (England). It is covered with Oriental motifs, which was quite popular in English china in the 1870s. It is date stamped for 1876 and measures 10 3/8" across. It is in excellent overall condition, but does show signs of use - there are cut marks on the plate, and the glaze shows darker/brownish at the edges where the glaze appears to have been more thinly applied...

A Blue and White Staffordshire Creamer or Milk Jug, possibly by Enoch Wood; from the mid-19th century. Dimensions; 6" wide x 2.75" deep x 4" high to handle. Slight wear on bottom and handle from usage.

A spectacular and rare 18th century Chelsea porcelain teabowl and saucer, each piece very finely and thinly potted and fulsomely painted with exotic birds and insects in landscapes, with a thin reddish-brown edge to the rims. The interior of the bowl has a flower sprig. Examples of this pattern are almost unheard of, and because of the superb technique, the painting was very probably done by Jeffrey Hamet O'Neal or William Duvivier. This is an extremely fine example of a Lowestoft tea canister, made in the 1775 - 1780 period. It is of rectangular form with sloped shoulders and a molded ridge following the outline of the sloping portion. The printed design features flowers and insects. An open crescent mark is on the underneath.
