Mold number 913 size C with incised decoration of squares in a band at the shoulder of the vase. Vase is a yellow clay body, covered in a green to red Butterfat matte glaze. Flame Mark, with numerals for 1915, mold and size, with finishers mark for Ewan. Height of vase is 9 inches. Very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs; some minor surface blemishes (paint spots, rub marks). Circa 1915

It is 15 inches (38 cm) tall with stand, 10.75 inches (27 cm) without stand by 22 inches (56 cm) long by 8.25 inches (21 cm) wide. It is 11 lb.

It has rubbing of gold and has oxidation, cracks at the wood stand, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

Choson Period, ca. early 1800s

This jar is stoutly potted, having a tall neck and flaring body, resting on a thick grit-coated footring and slightly recessed base. It is clear glazed without decoration. Small gray and brown iron impurities in the clay freely show through the clear glaze. This is a mingei type folk craft item intended to use in the home. There are several stable hairline cracks from age, stained brown in the rim area.

A pair of lacquered nesting trays decorated with motif of waves in the Rinpa style. The set is titled: (transliteration: Korin Shu Urushi-e, Kuro Ikkan Maru Iriko Bon) Red Lacquer Korin Style Motif, Nesting Circular Trays in the Ikkan Style. The trays were done by an artist named Housai who was possibly active around the mid to late 20th century, comes with box. A pair of molded edge porcelain dessert serving bowls, Spode circa 1814 with bat transferred fruit in the center. Pattern number 1686. Neither is marked, but the distinctive border of twined dolphins alternating with a large plant (?) is a Spode design. The pattern of fruits is currently made by Spode and called “Chatham.” The border is set off with a band of gilding at the rim and the inside edge. The bat transfer is an unusual color, almost brown at some angles and gold at others...

Antique Japanese carved wooden mask of an okina, or old man, used in the theatrical art form of Noh. Every Noh mask represents a specific character, and when the shite (performer) puts on their mask, the term for putting on clothing (kaburu) is not used. Rather, it is called kakeru or tsukeru (to hang/to attach), as this symbolizes the transformation into the character. The mask shows traces of the facial hair it once had, which has been lost due to age...
