Small Christ in cast bronze, traces of gilding. French medieval 13th century. The bronze has a beautiful old patina, there is very little gilding left. He wears a loincloth and an Egyptian headdress. A stylized flower appears to be drawn on his belly. It was mounted on a gilded wooden frame probably in the 18th century. Height of Christ alone 95mm. Good condition, no repairs, normal wear for the period, beautifull original patina.
Crucifix in wood and pewter. The cross is made up of 2 planks of softwood, fir or larch? The Christ and the other elements are in cast pewter (or lead?). Monstrance (reliquary)in cast bronze and chiseled copper. Gilding quick-silver. Base weighted by lead. Disassembles into 2 parts. It has not been cleaned for a very long time, so the gilding appears orange under a layer of oxidation, smoke and dirt. The gilding is perfectly preserved. Lost wax cast bronze Christ. Probably original wooden cross. The fine quality sculpture is certainly the work of a good artist. It would be interesting and profitable to find out who it is. A fine and early English saucer showing a Chinese man with a bird. Done in blue and white, lot 303 of the Bonham's sale of the famous and important Watney collection showed this same pattern and identified it as being William Reid porcelain.
The saucer is in excellent condition and is 4 7/8" in diameter.
NOTE: William Reid & Co. were porcelain makers in Liverpool between 1756-61. Their factory was situated on Brownlow Hill where a bone-ash porcelain was produced.
