Unusually large late 19th century wooden netsuke of a fish. Perfectly captured essence of the creature, pretty much actual fish size, beautifully carved fins, excellent rendition of its head. The material is sakura - cherry tree wood. Extraordinary done large inlaid convex eyes with dark and light horn and underlying gold foil producing superb live effect. He was found by Yamauba, the forest goddess, who nursed him to grow to become the Hercules of Japan. This charming bronze has wonderful detail. 4 inches (10cm) high x 3.25 inches (8.5cm) wide.

Antique small Hirado ware figure of a rabbit. Made of porcelain and glazed white with great detail especially to fur. Hirado ware was first developed in the village of Mikawachi located in the area of Kyushu which was, along with neighboring islands, controlled by the Hirado daimyo. Initially Hirado ware was made exclusively for the daimyo's use. Later, Hirado ware found it's way west through Japan's trade with the Dutch East Indian Company...

A lidded Japanese Imari porcelain vase, finely painted with landscape cartouches and Ho-o birds among brocade pattern and peonies. With 19th century French bronze mountings, the pedestal composed of four nicely modelled elephant heads and heart shaped bordure, which is repeating on the rim ring. Condition: fine, only cover inside with a tiny rim chip (see picture no. 8). Dimension: total height: 31.8 cm.
