A set of three Chinese Ming Dynasty pottery tomb figures of house attendants / gardeners. The figures date to Ming Dynasty - 1368-1644 AD.

The set consists of three figures clad in dark blue robes and hats. Each figure seems to be holding or carrying something for his master. A group of sturdy fellows, by the looks of them. All placed on square plints.

Size: the figures measure 22-23 cm. in height.

Condition: Choice condition with very minor wear and losses...

Ming blue & white plate with six character marks. Diameter approximately 30 cm. Repaired. In good condition.

DESCRIPTION: A large and handsome Sumida Gawa vase with ribbed body, high relief figures and pinched neck. A thick, traditional flambe' glaze in dark brown and blue covers the mouth and neck, and flows down the shoulders. Fine attention to detail has been paid to the handmade figures of a boy and girl standing on ledges against the ribbed body. Inoue (Ryosai) maker's mark in pear-shaped appliqué on the back. Early 20th C. (pre WWII) and in perfect condition; no chips or repairs...

A Japanese boxwood netsuke depicting Shojo crouched in a typical posture, with his hand resting on his knee, while sleeping from the effects of too much sake, the kimono is finely carved with geometric motifs as well as the long hair on the back. Similar examples of the Nagoya carvers are illustrated in Meinertzhagen, MCI, p.844, Davey, MTH, p.189, no.570 and Lazarnick, NIA, p. .1063. Edo period 19th century Sizes: 3,3 x 2,7 x 2,6 cm. This is really a rarely seen example of antique Japanese ceramic art: impressive Katakuchi Chawan (tea bowl with a spout), made of unrefined Mino clay. Katakuchi chawans of that age are barely available on the antique market. It is the only one in our collection. So take your chance.

Japanese antique finely detailed and articulated patinated copper rhinoceros beetle. During the peaceful time of the Meiji Period, samurai armor smiths turned their attention and skill toward making these exquisite creatures. Chinese Daoist painting on paper. The colors are still strong and vibrant. There is some creasing through out, but otherwise in good condition the painting measures: 27.5" long x 20". The whole scroll measures 74" long x 45.5" wide.

A Tibetan Bronze figure of Shakyamuni, 19th century or earlier.

Buddha sat in a mediative pose, one hand in his lap, the other connects to the earth. The head has been dressed with gold paint, the hair exhibits traces of blue. A good quality sculpture that seems to have had a hard life and has seen better days. There is a bruise to each upper arm, one larger than the other and some distortion to the bottom of the lotus base.

Approximately 9.5 cm high...

This is a Mogolian wine cup with coral and turqoise beads. Good condition, except for one loose coral bead.

Japanese Mizuya, one(1) piece Kitchen cabinet, Meiji period, 1880-1900, 68" high, 33" wide(top and bottom moldings are 5" wider), 15" deep, Persimmon wood drawer front with Copper handles on all drawers, all inlaid Persimmon wood arrows indicate the top up direction, two(2) frosted glass sliding doors above the metal mesh screen doors (one carving section is missing), stylish wooden display shelves are inside the sliding glass doors, constructed with side moldings on both sides...

One of the finest examples of Kamakurabori carving techniques we have seen. Chinese qingbai ware porcelain teapot with a ribbed melon shape body, short flat spout and spiraled handle. The mouth is flared with a thin and short neck. The foot is left bare from the light green crackle glaze on the body.

Tai Lue Burmese wooden Buddha sitting in Mara Vijaya (calling the earth to witness) posture on a base.

Tai Lue is a tribal people living in Burma, it is difficult to find Buddha from this ethnic group.
Tai Lue Buddhas look more primitive than typical Burmese Buddhas.

Museum piece. Inscripted on the bell are two dates: Kiei 4 (ca. 1851) and Meiji 28 (Ca. 1895) along with donor names. We are not sure why there are two dates. Also written,it is from Gyoshin-ji Temple in Omi no Kuni which is the Edo Period Ca. (1614-1868) name for present day Shiga Prefecture next to Kyoto.
