An antique pair of medium sized bronze Japanese temple lanterns each comprised of three sections with hinged door for access to the interior. Original beautiful patina consistant with age. Sturdy and overall great condition. Would do well inside or outside and could command a presence in any garden setting.

Incredible belt buckle with chased Malay floral motifs on a niello ground. Three layers of ogival form with jagged edges and pointed sides. Several bands of geometric designs, line work and floral motifs ornament this piece. The centre is of plain silver with a central niello dot.The back has a looped carrier which allows a belt to pass through.

Niello belt buckles were worn with textile belts on ceremonial occasions...

Antique Chinese large 12-panel Coromandel screen. Decorated with dramatic scene of men on horseback. Bordered by red dragons. The reverse is a quiet scene of trees and flowers. Made of kuan cai (incised colors) lacquer on wood.

Rare maedate (frontal element of the Japanese helmet) representing a Ho-oh (phoenix). The bird is in cut, embossed and chiseled copper. Red oxide patina, gilding and silvering. Metal maedates are very rare and almost always made of iron. The most common, without much interest, are made of wood. This one is an exceptional model in terms of material, quality, interesting subject matter and the shape elegantly occupies the allocated space...

Serene and calm landscape of the mountains with three figures, two men and a boy, sitting by the river bank. There are two inscriptions at the top with seal marks below them. It is mounted on a yellow paper with a medallion pattern. The image measures 17" wide 50.25" long, overall 24" wide 90" long.

Antique Japanese extra large bronze vase. Dramatic baluster form with foliate rim, fluted neck and chimera handles. Archaic motifs around the neck and shoulders. The body of the vase is decorated with highly raised scenes of birds including songbirds and a peacock. The flared foot of the vase has a dragon and crashing waves.

Excellent quality dark patina bronze okimono depicting the study of a powerful panther. The posture is engaging with the hind legs bent, tail curled upwards and the body in an oblique position. The jaws are wide open and show the animal's teeth, while the whiskers are in relief. The streaks of the fur are depicted in a masterly way and highlighted in a different patina even to the touch...

A large and imposing bronze image of the Songzi Niangniang (‘The Lady who Brings Children’), a primary Daoist deity. Fine expression and details. Covered with a dark brown patina all-over. Ming dynasty, most probably Wanli period (1573–1619), a time when it is known that large number of Daoist images were made. ****H 38 cm. ****Condition: Generally very fine. Minor remains of cold gilt and colouring. One tip of a finger broken off.

An exceptional antique Japanese bowwood carved netsuke - the Yama Inu - a dog resting his paw on his masters scull. Protecting him in even past the point of death. Superstition related to the okuri(yama) inu are extremely old, and are found in all parts of Japan.
The meaning of the dog also speaks about patience, reliability, and obedience. It focuses on protection, guardianship, and service. The dog spirit animal is a noble animal...

Unusual Japanese two-section choba tansu (merchant's chest), made with Kiri (paulownia) front hardwood, Sugi (cedar) sides, and two large Keyaki (elm) sliding door panels with a roomy, shelved interior space. Each drawer opens with hirute style iron handles and a simple squared lock. Its sides are reinforced with horizontal slats.

The cabinet is solidly constructed with planks of resinous wood probably Hinoki (a variety of cypress), it is reinforced with artistically forged and cut fittings in the purest Japanese spirit, it has 3 locks which is exceptional, the main side with key, that of the upper part of the door also with key and secret sliding system and that of the lower part simply with secret system. This type of chest was used, it is said, by ship captains...

Nine prong bronze bell and matching nine prong bronze vajra (diamond / thunderbolt) with carrying case of patchwork cloth. Used together for spiritual ceremonies. Beautifully rendered design with ritual wear. Bell has dorje design on outer rim, with lotus design on inner bell and a bronze clapper. Nice ringing note when sounded.

Antique Japanese unusual funa tansu (funa-dansu, ship merchant's safe box). Rare side-by-side configuration with a safe on the right and a compartment with sliding panels on the left. The right side safe box opens with a hinged door heavily decorated with iron work. A ivy leaf in circle mon (Itowa-ni tsuta) in the center with a ring for opening and a fan motif on the lock itself. The interior has 3 drawers in a vertical row, all with square handles and the bottom drawer with a lock...

Chinese Ming dynasty blue and white swatow zhangzhou. 21,8 cm diameter. 14,3 cm high. Good conditions. only found firing fault at the rim.

Exceptional example of a very old Japanese bronze. This type of lacquered bronze of the best quality is extremely rare. We only know a handful. This is the Mule of Toba in cast bronze, lacquered in red and cream. The animal is represented lowering its head. His rider, Toba has disappeared. Note the elegance of the movement, the strength but also the humor that emerges from this sculpture, this is the unique work of a great sculptor...

Box (Kobako) in lacquered wood powdered with gold (nashiji) decoration representing Daruma (with cut eyelids), face in red lacquer (cinnabar), eyebrows in silver powder and transparent eyes (crystal, glass or mica?). Daruma stands in front of a circular opening in old cracked walls. Its silhouette stands out against a background of rich kinji lacquer. Daruma wears a meditation robe lacquered in relief (taka-makie) with gold dust...
