This late 19th century famille-rose bowl (cup) is 1½ inches tall and 2½ inches in diameter. It depicts one red bird standing on a tree branch and chrysanthemum blossoms on the side. The translation for the four Chinese characters is ¡°This style of drawing copies the Yuan Dynasty¡±. It is in excellent condition.

The entire surface is enameled and painted very skillfully with designs based on Indo-Buddhist mythology. These wares were made of fine porcelain, probably in Jingdezhen, and were exported to the Kingdom of Siam (Thailand) where they were primarily used by the king and his court. The enamels are of a famille rose type, thickly applied, and in the case of this fairly large bowl, very well-painted in the Siamese taste...

This porcelain dish is in the shape of an abalone shell with underglaze blue and overglaze enamel decoration. It is raised on a low footring with an underglaze blue four character mark reading, “Made in the Great Ming.” There is minor glaze wear to the interior and minor firing flaws. There are no cracks or restorations.
