Carved from a jade-like hardstone (possibly serpentine). Rectangular form with a slightly raised grinding surface bordered by a narrow, raised perimeter with a carved depression for water at the top end. Very good condition with no cracks. There is some wear to the grinding surface and to the base. Old patina with old light soiling.

The well-potted gourd-form vases are decorated with overglaze green, yellow, aubergine and red enamels, characteristic of 18th Century, but the paste appears to be consistent with the 19th Century.
