Round, footed bowl-form base and tapering stepped lid are heavily cast in bronze and then finished by lathe-turning to enhance the concentric stepped pattern on the lid and the incised rings encircling the base. The bronze retains its natural patina from age and use. There are areas of reddish-brown and small patches or verdigris on the exterior. Large and only slightly distorted full cylinder shaped Tsutsu (hight is bigger than diameter) tea bowl with a rounded brim, made of reddish, unrefined Mino clay with clearly visible finger marks on the wall.
The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife around the regular food ring. In the style of Seto-Kuro bowls this bowl was covered with a black glaze.
On three sides a round space was spared from black glaze...

A rare and unusual 18th Century Gu form copper vase decorated with flower scrolls in bright famille rose enamels against a blue ground. The central copper section is engraved with three archaic style Taotie masks. This item was made in China during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). Condition - excellent - there are some stress marks to the white enamel inside the rim but, unusually no damages and losses and no restoration...
