A scholars favorite, this small pouch was used most likely for general purpose items, but I suspect it was actually used for cricket accessories, due the subject matter of a cricket at play, and the double gourd shape of the pouch. On the opposite side is an auspicious butterfly, the entire presentation is unique and charming. This scholars delight dates to the late 19th century. In excellent shape,it measures 4.75 inches or 12.1 cm long.

Japanese Cedar and Pine wood Writer's Box with Black Iron handle, hinges, and drawer pulls, Ca. early Meiji period, 19th C., 7" high, 11" deep front to back, 5 1/2" wide. Large open space under the hinged top is for storing Scholar's utensils. Push the small button on the side lock compartment to lift up the top. Two(2) drawers have black iron ring pulls. The condition is good, no damages. The black finish is original.

19th century Japanese Asakusa school staghorn kiseruzutsu - tobacco pipe case - carved with the Monkey King with a bamboo stick in his hand standing under a pine tree and looking at two monkey warriors also armed with poles. Clever carving incorporating outer texture of the antler and porous nature of its center as elements of design. Beautiful wear and patina, two holes on the sides appear to be original. Length 7 7/8 inches.

Sawankhalok kiln was located in the middle Thailand in 14~15th century and famous for fine celadon works. This bowl is a large size piece with stem, carved flowers with beautiful green celadon glaze. It is amazing that about half of the snuff still remains in this bottle. Lacking a stopper, it was stuffed with tissue when we received it. We added the stopper for display purposes. The scene surrounding the bottle depicts a person riding a buffalo towards a mountain range while pointing behind him to the man with an umbrella. The bottle has a network of crackles stained over to a pale brownish tone. There are some pin pricks from firing, maybe bits of ash. Dates 1800s. 3 inches high.
