Chinese Song / Yuan Dynasty Glazed Stoneware Jar

This sturdy storage jar dates to the 12th - 14th centuries. It is quite "heavily-potted" and has a rolled rim with four loo-handles speared equidistant around the shoulder. The streaky yellowish-brown glaze falls short of the unglazed base. Most likely it was made for export to south-east Asia.

Late Qing Dynasty (1890s - 1900s) small Chinese bronze seal with square base and loop for hanging on the top. The impression of the seal is shown on the first photo (image is flipped left to right to present the image as it will actually print on paper). Nice piece with good casting, well carved raised characters on the base, dried red seal paste in the grooves. Very pleasant to the touch, wonderful piece for a scholar’s desk. This tall bamboo incense holder is elaborately carved with a bird attacking a snake. The birds wings are out-stretched and spread around the container and the bird is being cheered on by a much smaller rooster. The carving is deep and detailed.

The holder is 12 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter and has a deep mahogany brown patina.
