Japanese "zelkova" (keyaki) wood Yonezawa style two-section tansu with round iron lock plates engraved in a butterfly motif and rimmed with a thin band of silvery "hakudo" (nickel alloy). "Mokko" (melon style) drawer pulls and four side carrying handles. Circa 1880. 38"H x 38 3/4"W x 17 1/2"D. The tansu is in very good sturdy condition and has the original lacquered finish. This is a very unusual artifact. It is bone that has been covered with 22K hammered gold. It is 8" long. It is either a pectoral or perhaps a nose ornament. The bone is broken near the center, but is completely covered by the gold. It is from La Tolita, Ecuador C500BC-500AD. This piece was found with a gold death mask in a tomb. It was found lying next to the mask and was part of the mask. The two were separated. The mask sold for $75,000. It is from the Ken Klassen collection, Bogota.
Antique Japanese small lacquer tebako (accessory box) with image of a crane standing on the bank of a lake or stream. Looking up at the crane from the swirling water, is an ancient turtle. A pine tree and fruit tree grow on the hillside behind the crane. Fine gold maki-e lacquer with dense gold nishiji on a black lacquer ground. The interior of the box is entirely covered in gold nishiji. The rim of both the bottom and lid of the box is edged in silver...

Antique wooden carving of a Chinese Lohan, which in the Buddhist religion is a state of enlightenment right before becoming a Bodhisattva. This Lohan stands with his robes open and his arms crossed, a hole drilled through his hands to hold something, perhaps a staff or a candle. His back features a small compartment in which prayers are to be placed. Ming Dynasty ( 1368-1644)

Rustic round platter, called ishizara in Japanese, used in kitchens and commoners’ households. Pale yellow glaze that typically leaves the foot free. The plate is slightly warped, as is common with ishizara. Seto ware, Edo period.
