A blue and white gravy jug or creamer, Chinese export porcelain, c 1830. The hand painted decoration of pagodas in a seascape is cut off on both sides of the handle, mimicking the competitive English porcelain factories, where this was an obvious downside of the new and rational method of printing. Rare snapshot of a satyr play with a pot-bellied actor in the role of the drunken satyr on a mule. The ithyphallic animal with dancing hind legs, the head thrown up, the mouth easily opened.
The rider sits as if drunk, the head turned to the side. His left hand clasps the head of the mule, while his right rests on the animal’s croup.

A butterfly, suzumushi, praying mantises, yellow jackets and grass hoppers are traveling in a line, holding flowers and grasses for keyari, carrying a honeycomb for a palanquin, and berries for luggage.

Small shrine with the esoteric Buddhist figure of the Fudo Myōō who personifies Dainichi Nyorai. He is standing on a rock pedestal – symbol of his steadfastness - with a rope in his left hand and formerly with a sword in his right hand (broken off and missing). Behind him a flaming red mandorla.
