Chinese Neolithic Qijia Culture Cord-Impressed Pottery Jar
This jar was made some 4,000 years ago by peoples of the Neolithic Qijia Culture (c. 2050 - 1700 BC), in the north of China, what is now eastern Gansu province. They produced a variety of pottery vessels including cord-impressed pottery of many shapes and sizes. This particular example is made from a coarse gritty clay and more "heavily-potted" than some. Provenance: India, 19th Century.
This is a finely carved and lacquered wood Ojime in the form of a Daruma Toy or "Okiagari Koboshi", meaning the little priest that gets up. The center cord hole or himotoshi are lined with shakudo or copper and gold alloy. Signed Hoshin in the back of the Daruma.
Ojime measures 0.63 inches (1.6cm) in diameter, and 0.80 inches (2.0cm) tall. It is in excellent condition as may be seen in the posted photos.

Three(3) Chinese Export Porcelain Rose Mandarin Demitasse Cups and three(3) Export Porcelain Rose Medallion Demitasse size Saucers, Ca. cups-1830-1840, saucers-1860's, both designs are typical Roses and Mandarin figures in the garden. They are not set but will go together, they were made in different times. Saucers have couple hairline cracks and one of saucer has chips on the bottom rim, cups are in fine condition and large Mandarin figures are all around outside the cup.

A 19th century Staffordshire flat back china cottage 1850-60s. It is the flat back type, and measures 4 1/4" high and 3 7/16" across. The colouration is simple - yellow ochre and rust-brown. This porcelain cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Furstenburg between 1753 and 1770. The saucer has a diameter of 5 1/4 inches and the cup is 3 inches high at the handle. The cup has the traditional Biedermeier style handle that raises above the rim of the cup. There are hand painted bands of grape vines and grapes done in earth tones. There are gold accents and trim on the rims and handle.

A nice coin silver rattail spoon by John Brown, active in Baltimore from 1799, after apprenticing in Philadelphia. The bowl is rather narrow, suggesting it was to be used as a pap spoon. The spoon must have been an early piece from Brown's shop, as the design is quite clearly drawn from late 18th century styles. The three-letter monogram in a bright-cut cartouche is also characteristic of the period. The back is marked with Brown's punch.

n the mid 15th century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the “Dragon’s Embrace.” Around 1994 local fishermen began finding pottery in their nets. Thus what has become known as the "Hoi An Hoard" was discovered. This blue and white porcelain bowl is from that famous find. It was also part of the original Butterfields auction of Hoi An pieces. Japanese Metal Tsuba shape Ojime, Ca. 1900 Meiji, 7/16" high, 7/16" wide, decorated with the raised gilded Birds on the Plum Flowering Trees on the both sides of the two(2) shades of Bronze color of shape of the Tsuba, one side is darker than the other. Cord go through the holes on the top and the bottom and connect with Netsuke.
The gently domed top of this incense box is decorated with a traditional painting of crane diving for fish over sea rock. The sides of the box lid have scalloped indents to allow for easy opening. Box is 5+ inches x 3+ inches X2 inches high.
