This is a child's helmet ("khohl") from Kohistan, an isolated mountainous region of northern Pakistan located on the river Indus. Metal zippers, white beaded fringes, silver pendants and mirrored discs all serve to guard against the djinn, or evil spirits. The helmet has a high peaked crown supported by inserted sticks of wood, and topped with a beaded tassel. This is a beautiful small cloisonne vase decorated with with 7 butterflies of different sizes. Stands 4 3/4 inches tall. It is stamped Japan on base so it was probably made sometime between 1920& 1930. The enamel colors and style look like a few Ando pieces we have had from this time period. Condition is excellent with just wear to the rim coatings

A large intricately carved and pierced Chinese soapstone censer. This censer features 3 large foo dogs: two foo dogs at the top of the body with a foo dog removable finial or lid. Three small foo dogs frolic under the 2 larger dogs. The base is a very dark brown, hand carved and not removable. In excellent condition, the censer, as pictured in photo 1, measures 11 inches x 11" x 2.25".

An exceptionally early work in ink and watercolor by the familiar New Mexico artist PERCY TSISETE SANDY ("KAI SA"), 1918-1974. Measurements are 6 1/2" by 4 1/4" (11 3/4" by 9" simply framed). Depicting delicate motifs in somber, predominantly blue-black combined with discrete touches of rusty red, this textile from the Savu Islands of eastern Indonesia is called a selindang. The shawls are worn by women over their shoulders, to complete their sarong attire. This textile is estimated to date to the late 20th century and is constructed by warp ikat, warp-faced, with fringes. It measures 71 x 191 cm and is in perfect condition. The dye is a natural indigo.

Japanese mask netsuke of a fox; natural material; stained and signed

Measuring 36 x 222 cm including the beaded tassels, this wedding turban from Hazara district in Pakistan is hand-embroidered in mostly dark pinkish-red floss silk on an indigo dyed cotton ground. The meticulously worked satin stitch is typical of Hazara embroidery with close links to the phulkari embroidery of Punjab. One end of the turban is missing the tassles. Estimated age: mid to late 20th century.

This carved smoky crystal snuff bottle is 2” high, 3” long and 1” thick. It depicts a lucky bat resting on a melon. The crystal has some natural flaws. However, the color is quite even and it has been well hollowed and polished. It has a coral top. This is a mid-20th century product and is in good condition.
