A Chinese porcelain brush washer with a flambe ox blood glaze and the splashed colors of red, white and blue. The pot was for the use of a scholar to clean his brush when doing calligraphy. The washer is six sided and measures about 2" tall x 2 1/2" in diameter. This is another example of the ox blood glaze, during the 19th Century, running in the kiln, which made in necessary to break the piece from the kiln. A pair of silvered bronze tripods, Jue, an archaic type of vessel used for heating and serving wine, the shape originating from the early dynastic periods B C. These little elegant pair of Jue is from the early 19th century, made of silvered and engraved bronze or brass. Height "3½/ 9 cm. Condition: original handles shortened and some wear to the silver coating (cf pics.).

An 18th c French yellow silk underdress front, beautifully and heavily embroidered with metallic threads. The overall size is 27 1/2" by 19". The condition is good, with some scattered wear and pulls. It could highly benefit from a careful pressing.

A rare and wonderful bronze mortar, Baroque period of Northern Europe, 18th. century.


The mortar is inscribed with owners initials O: H: S:, M: L: and the clear date 1769, the mortar is likely somewhat older, early 18th. century and made in a bronze allow, not brass that became popular later in the 18th. century.

The mortar comes with the original Pestle and was part of the inventory (Exebition) of a Swedish Farmacy.

This porcelain butterfly was produced in Thuringia, Germany by the Schwarza-Saalbahn factory around 1900. Similar porcelain objects have been produced by Karl Ens of Volkstedt. The butterfly is 6 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches high. It is made of hard paste porcelain and is decorated with brightly colored high glazed enamels. There is raised enamel beading and gilded accents. It is an unusual object of beauty. Condition: Excellent

These plates were produced in Germany by KPM Royal Berlin Manufactory before 1920. They are 8 1/2 inches in diameter. The porcelain borders are cut out or reticulated in a lattice type pattern. They are hand painted in the style of Meissen. The flowers are colorful and realistic. You can see the veins in the leaves and the texture of the flower petals. This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Germany by Hutschenreuther in 1914. The saucer has a diameter of 4 1/4 inches. The cup is 1 7/8 inches tall with a diameter of 2 1/4 inches. The set has bands of deep, ruby red. Gilded medallions contain bunches of forget-me nots. Lacy gilding overlays the ruby red ground. The rims, handle and interior of the cup are heavily gilded. This representation of the female deity in seated position retains its old brown patina with areas of verdigris both on the exterior of the image as well as the interior of the base. The overall condition is very good with some minor wear but no apparent damages. Acquired from a Chapel Hill, NC estate, originally collected in the 1930s.

A marked Meissen match safe from the late 19th century for those matches that were struck on any rough surface. The rough surface is on the inside of the top. The box is a rectangle with cut corners and curved sides. The outside of the top is stepped with blue bands marking each step to the flat top, the sides of the lower portion curve inward to a low foot. An antique, 18th –19th century Indian, finely cast, copper alloy figure depicting an Indian Hindu deity, Rama. The figure is shown standing on a square plinth, with hands on hips. Rama is wearing a long dhoti tied at the waist with a sash falling down the sides of the legs. The upper torso is adorned with necklaces, and the arms have armlets and bracelets. The face is flanked by elongated earlobes and is topped by a high conical headdress.

Outstanding pair of early American coin silver sugar tongs. The arms are cut in a modified fiddle shape and are decorated with superb applied fruit baskets. The claws are shaped as scallop shells. Interesting large stamp, slightly Oval and inspired by Egyptian scarabs, Middle-Assyrian Empire, 15th.-11th. cent. BC.

Very large for the type and engraved with a finely carved winged and horned animal. On the other side was an engraving of Ashur that was deliberately partly erased in antiquity! So the removing of Ashur would have been done by enemies of the Assyrians.

The letters made of copper plates originally attached to a votive wooden tablet dedicated from its worshipper named Yamato Sue to the Miyoshi-jinja shrine in Akita prefecture. Meiji period (1868-1912). Letter of Kami (God): approx. 11 x 13cm (4.33 x 5.11in).
