Meiji(1868-1912) Japanese Wood Lacquer 5 Layers Inro with Bamboo & Wood Boy Netsuke

It is 3.3 inches (8.5 cm) tall by 1.85 inches (4.7 cm) wide. The netsuke is 1.85 inches (4.7 cm) tall.

It is in good condition with no repairs except peeling of lacquer, a gold leaf is loose, chips, and hairline cracks at the netsuke (as seen in the photos).

This porcelain bowl was produced in Germany by the Richard Klemm Dresden studio around 1900. The bowl measures 9 1/4” in diameter and 2” deep. The bowl has a frilly molded border that has a scalloped edge. Three large sprays of hand painted flowers accompanied by little buds and sprigs decorate the inside of the bowl. This pair of carved ivory emperor and empress are late 19th or early 20th century export pieces. The emperor is 12 ¼” high, 2 ¼” wide and 1 ¾” thick. The empress is 12 1/8” high, 2 ½” wide and 2” thick. The emperor is holding a sword and the empress is holding a Ruyi. The robes are very well carved with dragon and phoenix designs. There is honorable “Great Ming” mark on the bottom of the empress. They are in excellent condition.

Turn-of-the-century French gilt-bronze picture frame. Rectangular window in same surround with raised beaded, leaf, and guilloche borders and scallop shells applied over ribbon border in pink guilloche enamel. Wreath-and-ribbon crown. With glass, silk lining, and hinged easel wire support. For portrait (vertical) display. Excellent condition.

A pair funny Chinese lions, the male leaning his paw upon a embroidered ball and the female with a small cub, both sitting on a pierced stand. Each carved from a single piece of boxwood. Dimension: c. 10. 3 cm high. Condition: few tiny losses and cracks.

Late Qing Dynasty (1890s - 1911) small Chinese red coral carving of Guanyin - the Boddhisattva of Compassion - in her monastic robe. Nicely carved, beautiful true salmon red coral, narrow drilled hole allowing it to be used as a bead on a necklace or as a separate pendant. Height 1 1/16 inches.

Late Meiji (1890s to 1910s) netsuke of a standing fat baby boy wearing just a bib and holding a thick rope that serves as a collar for a puppy standing next to him. Excellent carving, great chubby face, superb depiction of his fat body and fingers. Nice flow to the rope with its twisted texture, expert use of black, orange and golden ink, beautiful wear and patina. Signed HOZAN on the bottom - the artist is listed in NETSUKE by Neil Davey (p. 470, number 741). Height 1 13/16 inches.

It was stringed as a hanging piece with charming look.

An antique Japanese Kotansu (personal storage chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original bronze hardware with replaced drawer pulls. Two hinged doors open to a storage space for books and documents with removable shelves and small drawers below. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

He wears the typical long Tao robe and crown shape hat. On the back of statue, there is a covered niche for the storage of prayer rolls. Wood with colours with very good details.
