There are only few opportunities to find antique Chosen Karatsu chawans - collectors know of what I'm talking about. Here is the second one of our collection:

An antique Japanese Ranma (transom) that was highly detailed and hand carved out of Akita Suginoki (Cryptomeria from the Akita region) with a Hinoki (Cypress) frame. It features a landscaped Shinto shrine grounds complete with the shrine complex, pine trees, clouds, a Torii gate, a Pagoda, and a beautiful footbridge. The image is carved on both sides to show the front and back of the complex...

A Pre-Columbian Mayan Mushroom Stone, c. 600 AD. It's 6.5" tall and has stains on its edges from being gripped during intense ceremonies. It comes from a private Berkeley, California collection.

Moss Agate (also called a form of Dendritic Chalcedony) Snuff Botle of flattened rectangular shape, supported on a raised oval elongated footrim, the gently slopping shoulders rising to a cylindrical neck, with concave and wide mouth; the stone showing cluster of mineral (iron or Manganese ixide) of green and brown colors on a grayish ground on one side, and muddle ferns and tree branches mostly in green, dark green and some brown patches, on the other side...

A rare, most beautiful Song period, 11th century Dehua ware covered box. Porcellaneous white stoneware with an excellent moulded floral decoration under a honey - coloured glaze. A very nice and early example of Dehua ware ! Diameter : 9,9 cm. Perfect condition !

Two sliding doors behind which is a storage area with a split level shelf. 5 drawers provide additional organization and storage. Constructed using straight dovetail Japanese joinery and hardened wooden nails. It would function well as a beside stand or a side table...

A beautifully sculpted incense burner in the shape of a nesting crane dating from the 19th to opening of the 20th century, Late Edo to Meiji period). It comes enclosed in an age darkened kiri-wood collectors box. It is 12.5 x 24 x 16 cm (5 x 9-1/2 x 6 inches). Although not altogether clear there appears to be a possible old repair to the back of the head.

Japanese isho tansu, or clothing chest of drawers, constructed with Persimmon wood front drawers and a Sugi (cedar) frame and interior. The tansu holds four long drawers with metal pulls and round keyholes with floral plating. The sides of the piece are built with handles to carry and transport the tansu. Original condition with kanji inscription on backside of chest.

Taisho period (1912-1925)

This phenomenal 7 3/16" Llama Bone Flute is highly engraved with human effigy carvings with crown or headdress and was recovered in Pisac, Peru near Machu Picchu. It is highly polished. It is so translucent that when backlit with a flashlight, light passes through both sides of the bone. It has beautiful patina. A lot of work and pride went into creating this beauty. I purchased it from Jim Bennett who has written several books on detecting fakes and reproductions.
