The Chinese white jade (nephrite) dragon belt buckle is a late 19th century product. It measures 3 ¼ inches long and half inch wide. The color of the jade and workmanship are great. It is in excellent condition.

Antique Mongolian traveler's knife and chopsticks set. The knife's sheath is made of wood and completely covered in silver repoussé designs of Buddhist symbols and inlaid with coral and turquoise florets. The handle of the knife and the chopsticks are made of bone.

Antique Chinese table screen made of serpentine from the Nangyang region. In two separate pieces: the picture slab of prized serpentine is framed in Huanghuali which sits into a carved frame. Valued for it's undulating natural snake-like layers, this serpentine screen once sat on a scholar's table. There, it could be admired and pondered for it's beauty.

An antique Khmer stone sculpture of Mahā Paramasangata Pada (Jayavarman VII), added to our family collection in 1930 from a private Japanese collection. It was made in mid 19th century.

Lacking any royal or divine attributes, this King Jayavarman VII statue represents Buddha as a simple, spiritual man.

His facial expression is accentuated by semi-closed eyes, a slight smile, large forehead, lips that are neither thin nor thick, and long ear lobes...

Rare and large huanghuali brushpot with its original finish and excellent patina. H. 17 cm, Diameter 17 cm. Condition: an old, worn chip at the top rim, some age cracks, small metal nail at the bottom. China, Qing Dynasty, 18th/19th century.

Carved from a jade-like hardstone (possibly serpentine). Rectangular form with a slightly raised grinding surface bordered by a narrow, raised perimeter with a carved depression for water at the top end. Very good condition with no cracks. There is some wear to the grinding surface and to the base. Old patina with old light soiling.

A Chinese celadon platter, Qing Dynasty. Diameter approximately 40.4 cm. Flower decorated and covered with even green glaze (rather bluish). Some lost glaze(frit)at the rim. Good condition.

With a sturdy foot firmly grounded, the upper rim of this piece rises and falls, somewhat reminiscent of a mountain path. Combined with the plum blossoms floating on the white background, these elements together suggest balance and harmony.

Antique Japanese kannon biraki isho tansu (chest on chest with hinged doors for storing clothing). Made with all keyaki (elm) wood on the front. Sugi (cryptomeria) wood on the sides and top. Round box is very well-potted and very skillfully painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a design of a boy, or possibly an immortal, riding on the back of a crane flying among clouds. The brushwork is finely detailed—even picking out tiny feathers on the crane’s back. Encircling both the base and the lid are bands of mille-fleurs decoration executed in minute detail with skillful brushwork...

A refined image of the deity Amitayus, known as the Buddha of infinite light in many pureland texts including the Sukhavativyuha Sutra. The central Amitayus image is surrounded by nearly a hundred or so other Amitayus images reflecting a concept found in Vajrayana and Mahayana texts of how a Buddha or Bodhisattva can be found in many locations simultaneously. The thangka contains a blessing with hand imprints and a mantra in the Bru-sha script to invoke the deity...

This amber Raku chawan was made in late Edo Period (1800-1868). Raku pottery is traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremony since as early as the 16th century. From our Japanese Collection, a superb and large satsuma lidded jar / tea caddy by Ryozan, Meiji Period 1868-1912, stunningly executed with exceptional fineness depicting two cartouches of people gathering, alternating with two cartouches of ducks and birds in nature scenes, all separated and framed by intricate brocaded reserves of floral motifs using wonderful color variation and extensive gilt.

Size and Condition: A relatively large caddy at 7 1/4 inches tall, 6 1/8 inches wide.

High class Ohi Chawan made by the 8th generation Ohi Chozaemon (1851-1927) 120 years ago and is done in a style known as 'ameyu' or candy glazing. It comes with its originally signed and sealed wooden box.

The glazing is a wonderful example of ameyu and, in fact, approximates the color of a caramel candied-apple.

The interesting color scheme and glossy sheen make it an attractive backdrop for a frothy bowl of dark green matcha...

Middle 19th century Chinese white jade rectangular lock on a carved wood stand with incised decoration on both sides. One side has four Chinese characters which read ¡°prosperity for entire family¡±; the other side is a peony design in the center with a garden scene around it. The jade is 3 ½ inches wide, 2 ¾ inches high (5 inches tall with stand) and ¼ inches thick. There is a chip on the corner of the stand. It is in excellent condition.

This late 19th century Chinese famille-rose water jar is 2 ¾ inches tall and 2 ¾ inches wide. It depicts five boys in a procession. The first two boys are holding banners and gongs. The third is holding a lantern. The forth child is dressed in red and is riding a Qilin (a Chinese legendary animal which has a dragon head and ox body). This boy carries a puppet. The last boy is holding a fancy umbrella. The workmanship is excellent and it is in great condition.

An antique Japanese Nihon Matsu Kasane Tansu made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron hardware and acquired natural patina. Features Warabite style handles with Plum Blossom knockers (called Atari) used as an audible deterrent when thieves try to open a drawer. 4 large drawers for Kimono storage and a hinged door behind which 2 drawers kept valuables safe. Wooden netsuke representing a frog whose eyes are inlaid with horn. It is lying on a water lily folded on itself.

The frog (kaeru) is associated with luck and wealth. Kaeru means both "frog" and "coming home" in Japanese. This extension of meaning is due to the ability of the frog to return each year to the pond of its birth. A frog-shaped gong can thus sometimes be used as a door hammer or to protect a house.

This is a 19th century excellently hand-carved netsuke depicting a Kyogen and Noh Mask Group of Nine. Among the ancient Japanese Theater represented on this mask are: Hannya, Buaku, Okame, Okina, Otafuku, Oji, Osofuki, Noborihige, and Tenjin. Signed Koichi in an oval rectangular reserve, right next to the himotoshi. It measures 1.65 inches (4.2cm) in diameter, and 1.08 inches (2.8cm) thick. It is in excellent preserved condition.

This circular box is well-carved with cranes and clouds in low relief on the lid and covered with an even, sea-green, translucent celadon glaze that highlights the carving. The bottom half of the box is incised with lines radiating from the base and representing the petals of a chrysanthemum flower. The base is glazed and the footring is unglazed exposing the white paste – somewhat soiled with use. The interior of the base and lid is also glazed with an even sea-green celadon tone....

This lovely Ido-gata shaped chawan has very nice asymmetrical balance highlighted by extensive and skillfully applied kintsugi gold repairs. The inside bottom of the bowl is covered in a green glaze resembling a carpet of fine moss which stands out nicely agains the backdrop of the ashen-colored crackled glazing of the walls of the bowl.
