This is an extremely rare Japanese cloisonne enamel. It appears to be an early Ando piece. I say this because of the form used and the enamel technique used on this vase. The enameling has characteristics similar to some of the unique signed Kawade pieces with their mottled flowing enamels done in various colors. The enamels also vary from translucent to opaque. The vase is heavy due to the thick enameling...

This is a fine cloisonne enamel vase from the Meiji Period. Though more simplistic than many of his pieces, We believe this was vase made by Hayashi. The traditional elements of birds have highly articulated details, several with spread wings in flight, while others are flocked on the ground in front of brilliantly blooming pink flowers punctuated with delicate blue flowers. Behind all of this wonderous foreground naturalism are hills and lakes. The rim and base are decorated with typical burnt orange lappets embellished with gold.
