Description:

A wood water basin was nicely carved in shape of a lotus leaf with a lotus pond.
It was preserved in very good condition by nice brownish patina.
Some of the seeds in the lotus pond were still movable when some were sticked but nothing is missing.
It was a charming and very rare piece by this type.
Most of the old wood pieces were made as brush pots in relief carving...

This middle or late 18th century Japanese wood netsuke is 3 ¼ inches tall, 1 inch wide and ¾ inch thick. It was carved from unknown softwood and not signed. It depicts a famous Chinese historical character GUAN YU. His right hand is holding a weapon (long handled knife) and his left hand is holding a book called ¡°Spring-Autumn Annals¡±. It is in great condition.

A small 17th / 18th Century bronze flower vase, with a sinuous dragon curled around its neck, probably made for the scholar's table in China during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor (1662-1722).

Condition: very good - there are very minor surface bumps otherwise no damages or losses and no repairs or restoration.

Ming Dynasty Chinese scholar's duan inkstone. Simple and elegant in design with foot rim, the stone measures 4.25 x 5 inches. Custom rosewood box was made at a later date.Box 5.25" x 6".

Late 18th century netsuke of Rihaku seated leaning on a large wine jar with one hand and holding a wine cup in the other. Rihaku (Li Po in Chinese) was a celebrated, probably the most famous poet of China equally renown for his love of wine. Strong early carving, wonderful face and detailing of his clothes, of typical early triangular section. Wonderful feel of age, excellent patina. Height 1 1/8 inches.

18th century good size netsuke of a grazing horse with its head lowered to the left and its tail swishing around at the back. The eyes are inlaid with black horn, differently sized and deep himotoshi in accordance with the habit of the time. Great face, wonderful depiction of its mane, stands on its own on a flat surface. Beautiful sheen from wear, honey colored patina on the back. Netsuke of characteristic 18th century triangular section, old age line along the spine of the creature...

A rare brushpot caved in coconut. On one side 1 temple surrounded by 1 dragon with a fish tail (Makara) and a fish. On the other side 2 dragons surrounding the sacred pearl which curiously has the shape of an inverted heart. We can see the same heart on a coconut box illustrated on page 96 of book 44 of the complete collection of the Palace Museum...

It is a small container which is carved in a black stone which is not very hard. I think it is a soapstone. It was covered with a layer of solid red lacquer which has partially worn away with use and time. The central receptacle is flanked by 2 dragon heads which have their mouths open. The mouths are pierced with holes as for a teapot. It appears to be a 2-light oil lamp...

Very rare dropper in lost wax cast bronze representing an adorable little owl. The cast and chisel are perfect and the scraper finish is very neat. Slight cast iron defect below. The object plunges into the water and fills up through the beak and ears. The output of the drops is perfect. One by one as needed. Well thought out object is perfectly executed. Work from the 18th century or before, there is a good antique and beautifful patina...

One of such rare antique Hagi Chawan with wonderful glaze and aesthetically pleasing patina from the early 18th century (Edo Period), perfectly thrown and highlighted with an old gold restoration, a fantastic gintsugi (kintsugi) which makes our Hagi tea bowl even more valuable and outstanding.

It comes together with its wooden box and the authentication and appraisal of Soshu Mori, a former chief priest of the Daitoku-Ji Temple 大徳寺 Kyoto...

Small bat-shaped water container. It is in porcelain covered with a beautiful green glassure and is pierced with 4 openings, a small one at the mouth, 2 others on either side of the ears and a large one at the back. Was to serve as a water cup, either as a dropper, perhaps as an oil lamp or an incense holder, or several functions at the same time. It is a rare and charming object which is also auspicious. Good condition, normal wear for a centuries-old object...

Quality netsuke of a puppy chewing on an octopus tentacle; natural material; stained fur a little faded over time; some age lines; late 18th century; signed in an oval cartouche

18th century boxwood netsuke of minogame (turtle with dragon head and bushy tail, usually associated with longevity) sitting on water lily leaf. Strong early carving, great detailing of the turtle, its carapace, tail and head. Length 2.1 inches.

A well formed silver Buddha wrapped around an earthen core in the earth touching gesture. Size: H. 12.6cm. Width at the base. 6cm. Condition: the finial is missing. No repairs.

18th century Japanese sword iron tsuba inlaid on the front with gilded copper bunch of flowers and grasses, the back inlaid with a sickle. Elegant piece in Japanese taste, superb quality inlay with finely defined petals, great feel of age. Height 3 1/4 inches.

Small kogo, incense box, in the shape of a crab in rest. Grayish brown grainy earthenware, much like Raku, with red glaze and with patches of green and white glaze. The eyes are accentuated with gold, as is a small area on it’s back.

Potter’s mark on the belly.

Some of the gold rubbed, split in clay caused by firing at the rim of the lower section, which does not impact the stability of the piece...
