Late Qing era, well crafted Chinese Jade carving in the form of a saddled recumbent horse in graduated shades of green, having incised details and openwork areas at head and feet. This Tibetan gau (aka prayer box) is actually a small shrine. When not being worn as an ornament during festivals, it would be kept in the prayer niche of the family home. The back of the box slides open. Frequently, a special prayer i.e. sutra pages would be placed inside. The small glass window at the front displays a Tsa tsa, which is a clay statue of a Buddhist Deity. These statues were made only by the monks and considered to be a holy relic...

A Nyonya plate painted with auspicious symbols of a peach, peony and Buddha hand citron. Nyonya wares are over-glaze poly-chrome enameled porcelains made in Jingdezhen in the Kiangsi province of China for the Straits Chinese, or Babas, whose female counterparts are called Nyonyas, hence the term Nyonya ware. Rather unusual late 19th century Chinese glass seal in a shaped of a stylized rock. Beautiful transparent glass, excellent finish to the surface. The impression of the seal is shown on Enlargement 1 (photo is flipped left to right to present the image as it will actually print on paper). The bottom is crisply carved with four raised characters that can be translated as THE HALL WHERE KINDNESS is CULTIVATED, old dried red seal paste in the grooves. A fine pair of mirror image blue opaline glass vases with enameled butterflies and flowers. Attributed to Thomas Webb & Sons, these date circa 1860-1880. An antique Japanese temple plaque made from one large solid block of Keyaki (Zelkova) wood. Hand carved on both sides. One side depicts ocean waves which represents polar opposite ideas of peaceful tranquility and powerful ferocity. The opposite side features Sunflowers representing warmth and longevity and Chrysanthemums symbolizing immortality.
