A fabulous Japanese cloisonne vase purchased from the 1893 Chicago Exhibition. Inside the vase is an old decaying leaflet given to the buyers by the exhibitors. On a fragment one of the massive vases displayed by Suzuki can be seen on this paper (See image). There is more to this faded image on the reverse buy it is hard to see. The vase is one of the well known vases with the eagle finial. Every one of the Suziki pieces was approved by the Emperor for this exhibition. This vase is special...

A Blue and White Han River Painted Water Dropper-19th C. Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th century The rectangular slab-sided water dropper on four raised feet, decorated in underglaze blue and white with a Han River scene, the sides with abstract design beneath a clear white glaze. It’s in very fine condition without any damages. Measurements; 7cm x 6.5cm x 3cm h.

"Bun-in" is the last kiln for Joseon court. And there, high quality and sophisticated works were made. The chamfered vase is very rare on late Joseon. This piece is seemed to be made at a folk kiln in Bun-in. Certification : written by Noriki Shimazu the famous Asian antiques researcher in Japan. Size/ D:16.4cm H:14.5cm

This is an unusual, wonderful, and beautifully done folk art example of a tinsel or foil painting. The vast majority of tinsel paintings are of flowers. This rarity depicts a bluebird hovering over a basket filled with pears, a melon, and apples. A cluster of cherries, and bunches of grapes and foliage surround the basket. Colors are deep and very vibrant, and include blues, purple, brown, various shades of yellow and green, white, reds, and others...

During the Qing Dynasty, the feathers of the kingfisher bird were used to create ornaments for woman to attach to clothing and/or wear in their hair... Through the 1800's These ornaments were made and formed with heavy paper (light weight cardboard...) They had large areas of feathers and the edges of the paper form were bordered with gold paint...and the ornaments were often domed By the early 1900's the bird were becoming rare almost extinct ...so intricate and smaller sections of fea...

This is a superb example of the hooked rug pattern generally attributed to E.S. Frost & Company. Although Frost did have a lion pattern, it was substantially different and less complex than the Lion and Palm pattern designed by Ebenezer Ross, which is the one offered here. This particular rug is also done in a beautiful and uncommon combination of colors. Notice the striped motif along the bottom, mirroring a tiger or zebra pattern...

One of the largest and best tinsel paintings we have seen, depicting a large urn of various flowers, with other blooms scattered about; original frame; 28" by 24"

Most tinsel paintings have suffered a fair amount of paint lifting or loss, whereas this example only has a few spots of very minor age loss in a couple of small areas in the white background, making the overall condition excellent

A beautiful large piece late 18th C. Chinese Jadeite brooch, mounted on sterling silver. In excellent condition. H:1-3/4" x W:1-1/2".

An elaborately decorated lacquered sword stand. The stand is made into a small chest with three drawers. The chest is decorated with motifs of plums, a phoenix, and a Chinese style landscape with inlaid embellishments. The interior of the drawers is done in nashiji or pear skin makie. Age: 18th/19th century. Size: length: 19.75" width: 9.5" height 20"

This late 19th century Chinese white jade (nephrite) dragon head shape buckle is 3 inches long, ¾ inch wide and ¾ inch thick. There are a few small chips and flaw on the side of the body.

Japanese war fan, very thick and heavy iron frame that can be used closed as a weapon. Wooden slats (bamboo?) Maintaining the paper part. One side painted with a golden circle (sun) on the other a golden circle with a silver shade (moon?). Signed inside the frame...

A serene vision of enlightenment, calming and compassionate, can be seen in the later Edo period Buddhist carving of Amitabha. He stands on a lotus base, with a flame like mandala rising up behind him in the shape of a jewel, the entire gilded in pure gold worn soft with age and care. The figure alone is 39 cm (15-1/2 inches) tall. With the base and mandala, it is 65.5 cm (just under 26 inches) tall. It is in excellent condition...

An early 6" koro decorated in the 10,000 flower design against a pale grey blue ground, well executed and with minimal pitting. It is unfortunately missing a number of small red cloisons edging the upper rim.

This very well carved Japanese ivory okimono is a late 19th century product. It is 5 1/2” high, 2 3/4” wide and 2 1/4″ thick measured from the bottom. It depicts a smiling farmer holding a bundle of fresh cut lotus roots which are wrapped and bound in a straw sheet. The facial expression is very realistic. The short robe with willow tree design indicates it is either spring or summer which is the right season for harvesting lotus roots...

A fine example of early American folk art. Generally classed as fraktur type, paintings such as these were done by children, and were often, as this one was, painted on a page from a ledger or notebook. This particular piece is a charming depiction of a horse, and is housed in a period frame with a wonder crusty surface.

The painting is in very good condition, with good color, and no tears or creases...

Antique Japanese round lacquered wood container decorated on both sides with a karakusa (octopus vine) pattern and blossoms around the central aoi mon of the Tokugawa shogunate. Gold lacquer on a dark brownish black ground. Possible for archer bow strings.

Age: Edo Period (1603-1867)
