A namasu of slightly flattened form with an inturned rim. Decorated in nishiki-de style with a combination of underglaze blue, gilding and gilt outlined enamels typical of the late Mid Edo period c.1750-80.
The central mikomi incorporating auspicious peonies painted in underglaze blue with two eliptical reserves containing a beached boat and elements of a landscape. Framed by a band containing two partially obscured dragons chasing flaming pearls...

This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in Germany by the Royal Berlin Porcelain Manufactory or KPM in 1918. The saucer has a diameter of 4 5/8 inches and the cup is 2 inches high, not counting the handle. The shape of the cup is classic, with a handle that sweeps up over the rim. This is an extremely rare Japanese cloisonne enamel. It appears to be an early Ando piece. I say this because of the form used and the enamel technique used on this vase. The enameling has characteristics similar to some of the unique signed Kawade pieces with their mottled flowing enamels done in various colors. The enamels also vary from translucent to opaque. Scene of three sailing boats on a sea surrounded by mountains and a rocky shore. The two curving sides have a line of stylized brushwork. The flat base has sand and kiln grit adherence. Very good condition, with only very minor wear.

Rare item. Yazutsu (quiver) made of "koyori" which is twisted washi (Japanese handmade paper) strings. The crafts made of koyori and coated with urushi were called "Kami-Nagato" and they were popular handicrafts in Edo period, such as tabacco cases, bowls and sake containers in hyotan shape and so on. It has 15 arrows made of bamboo but feathers are worn out. The quiver is in excellent condition. The 19th century. L:94cm Diameter:7.5cm

A pair of lacquered wood tigers. Both are modeled in poses to suggesting hunting or stalking, with mouths open as if ready to bite - or possibly they have caught their prey and are ready to roar with triumph! The lacquer is yellow, black, and red. Both tigers stand on a wooden base and they likely served as guardians at an entryway...

A complicated lock with what looks like two keyholes and mounted on a studded iron plate, very heavy!
