An antique Japanese lacquer Inro with images of persimmons on a gold flecked background. The Inro has five compartments, a boxwood netsuke carved in the shape of a persimmon and a metal ojime incised with floral and geometric designs. The inside compartments are covered with dense nashiji lacquer (fine gold flecks). Exceptional.

Late Meiji (1890s - 1910s) small Japanese bamboo wrist rest used by painters and calligraphers, made out of a section of bamboo stem with very beautiful natural raised spotting on the outside resembling marching columns of black ants. Excellent subtle piece in elegant scholar’s taste, probably made for a child, warm patina, in superb condition. Length 7 1/8 inches, width 15/16 inches.

19th century marine netsuke carved as inu-bariko - a papier-mâché box in a shape of a simplified dog. Unusual version of the object - the face is that of a human. A beautiful Flight, Barr and Barr Worcester plate from the desirable "Harlequin" service. The decoration features an exotic bird painted by Henry Stinton in a central reserve which is surrounded by a white field edged with gilded rococo scrollwork extending into the cavetto. The wide rim of the plate is in a pale blue decorated with multicolored butterflies and insects.

The reverse of the plate has the elaborate red mark which was used specifically during the 1813 to 1819 period...

18th century Chinese toggle (similar in function to netsuke) carved out of boxwood in a shape of a monkey on a base, its face almost human, its mouth open. Very beautifully worn charming piece, patina consistent with age. Could have been used as a small brush rest. Very nice fingering piece, as well as an object for a scholar’s desk. Height 1 9/16 inches.
