Edo Period Kyogen Theater Karura (Garuda) Mask, donated in the 19th Century by the prominent collector, Dr. C.G. Weld to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Karura is a mythical fire-breathing bird-human creature from Buddhist-Hinduist mythology. A fine and rare example. Wood with lacquer. 8 x 6.25 inches, 20.5 x 16 cm.

This is a nice, leaf shaped, bronze spear point from ancient Luristan (circa 1500 BC). It measures 203mm and weighs 80 grams. It is slightly thicker in the middle than on the edges. It is in "as found" condition with no apparent damage or repair.

Antique Japanese unusually small kannon biraki (hinged doors) tansu chest made of kiri (paulownia) wood. The top portion of the chest opens to reveal a compartment with a single shelf. The bottom portion has two exterior drawers. Elaborate iron hardware is like that of a larger kannon biraki chest and includes heavy hinges and cross bracing on the doors with an ivy leaf mon (crest).

Antique 17th-18th century Islamic Indo-Persian Safavid tinned-copper footed bowl. The bowl is tall and is made of cast, turned copper. It has a deep form and a flaring foot. It is decorated with elaborate Arabic calligraphy, which has been chiseled and engraved into the copper. The calligraphy is paired with composite palmettes. The pronounced rim of the bowl is also embellished with a continuous key pattern.

Statue of Kuan Yin, wearing a robe and a cape, sitting in "regal repose" on a dais surmounting a stylised lotus. Kuan yin is holding a scroll on her left hand and a small ball on her right hand. A good early Arita Ewer of European form, probably derived from a German stoneware precedent, and decorated in the style of Chinese Transitional export ware with a repeating pattern of bands of Birds and flowers. This is a large fine Japanese cloisonne vase from Gonda. The wireless work is beautiful. The use of the subtle yellow tones behind Mt Fuji are an exquisite touch. We have had several of the small vases like this but never one this large or this quality from Gonda. The vase stands 7 1/4 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It is mounted with silver rims and the condition is outstanding.
