This is a freely painted swatow dish with a pair of mandarin duck and flower spray in the centre of the dish, with tendrils around the shallow cavetto and flowers in cartouches on the rim with diaper boarders. The glaze is opaque, thick, and covers the body and foot. There are sand grits around and inside the base of the foot rim. Cir. Late Ming dynasty, 17th century.
There is no hairline crack, glaze fritting, chip, repair or restoration...

Japanese scroll painting in ink on paper depicting a silhouette of a geisha. Signed YOSHIKUNI by the artist and dated 1917, followed by a red seal of the artist. Excellent composition, great depiction of robe lines beautifully done in ink washes. Silk brocade mounts, wooden scroll ends, creases as can be seen on photos. Painting size 50 x 11.5 inches, scroll size 70 x 15.75 inches.

A late Ming Dynasty, most probably Jiajing period dish with a very rare underglaze cobalt blue decoration of Kui Xing, the God of Literature.

Chinese horizontal panel carving with red lacquer and gilt accenting. A strong central figure stands with a person kneeling before him, and two heavenly figures on horseback to either side. Many other smiling figures gather closely while tree branches hang from below. The panel is framed and bordered in soft velvet.

Antique Japanese “Yogi” bed comforter, hand-spun cotton with "tsutsugaki" paste resist dye in aizome Japanese indigo dye. The design is auspicious symbol, Sho-Chiku-Bai (pine, bamboo, plums). The shoulder and collar areas are accented with "kasuri" cotton. Excellent condition - no holes on the front except one small L shape cut (3/4"x3/4") on the lower area, some repairs on the liner. Cotton wadding was taken out and cleaned (but not washed)...

This is a very fine, Qianlong Era (1730 - 1796) , flattened, of spade form Snuff Bottle with a round short neck, concave mouth, and flat concave oval footing. Made of a rare natural Cherry Amber, which is thought to be another form of Jet, with dark inclusions. Its sides are decorated with Foo Dog Masks with short, semi-circular handles, common on bottles made during the Early Qianlong period. The bottle is well-hollowed, with very thin walls, thus, very light in weight (0.4 ounces)...

Man's han-gappa which was worn over kimono when he went out and made of hand-spun cotton, both outside and the lining. It is in very dark green, dyed with natural indigo and vegetable yellow. It has beautiful two kinds of katazome (stencil-resist dye) for lining which is natural indigo dyed. The collar is made of imported wool. Antique betel nut box from the Philippines, composed of brass and nickel, with separate hinged compartments for the storage of various implements. The leftmost compartment is built up with slaked lime, which releases the alkaloids in the betel nut. The practice of betel nut chewing is common in many parts of South Asia. Slices of the areca nut would be wrapped in betel leaves and chewed, giving a mild stimulant effect.
