This beautiful green jasper Heart Scarab is 1/2" (13 mm) long and dates to ~900 BC. Inscribed Heart Scarabs were placed over a mummy’s heart to keep it from revealing any sin during its ‘Weighing of the Heart.’ Smaller, uninscribed Heart Scarabs, like this one, were introduced ~1000 BC. Chogappo made of fragments of ramie which is recycled from old bast fiber, hemp or ramie and indigo dyed. Pojagi is the general name for the wrapping cloth and "chogappo" is one kind of pojagi which is patchworked with asa (choma or hemp) fragments. (Reference source: "Korean Embroidery and Wrapping Cloths from the Choson Dynasty" published by Japan Art & Culture Association in 1995). Both warps and wefts are hand-plied. Hemp or ramie ones are for wrapping summer clothing. In excellent condition...

The upper body is covered in a creamy white crackled slip and is separated from the lower iron-brown section by a narrow horizontal band. Chinese late Tang dynasty to Five Dynasties period stoneware ewer with high shoulder tapering down to a slightly flared foot and flat base, the short neck ending in a slightly wider rolled mouth. A double-strand handle connects to the neck and shoulder, and a short straight spout is opposite the handle. The ewer is covered overall in a thin layer of white slip with a wavy ribbon or rope motif that ends well above the unglazed base. 7 1/2" high...

Rare Chinese Neolithic Pottery Tripod

This interesting pottery vessel was made over 3,000 years ago during the Chinese Neolithic or early Bronze Age. The form is of a cooking vessel and the three wide udder-shaped legs allow it to be stood in a fire with as much heat as possible being transmitted to its contents. It is not always easy to determine exactly which culture such vessels come from as similar vessels were made by various Chinese cultures...

A Chinese cloisonne vase, Qianlong, with garlic neck and octafoil body. Height 13cms. Jingtai four-character mark. Good condition.

Brush case, nicely embossed with an openwork decoration representing three stylised Buddhist vajras on either side, surrounded with a foliage and geometric design. Silver alloy, with a fine age patina. The center of each vajra must have contained a coral or turquoise to enhance the beauty of the case. The case was made in Tibet in the 19th century, maybe earlier. Length: 33.5 cm. Very good condition .

An elongated netsuke of bamboo carved at the root to represent the heads of a Reishi (Ling Zhi or bracket mushroom). It is 23 cm (9 inches) long and in excellent condition. Contrary to the ordinary Netsuke which are attached to long cords passed through the sash, the Sashi Netsuke has a very short cord and the netsuke itself is thrust between the sash and the Kimono. Their shape is thus long and flat...
