Unusually large late 19th century wooden netsuke of a fish. Perfectly captured essence of the creature, pretty much actual fish size, beautifully carved fins, excellent rendition of its head. The material is sakura - cherry tree wood. Extraordinary done large inlaid convex eyes with dark and light horn and underlying gold foil producing superb live effect. The scene is very folky, obviously a creative design by the child doing the embroidery. Often samplers were copied from images provided by the "school" of handwork, but this is clearly an imaginative work...

Massive Pair of Japanese Cloisonne enamel baluster vases, Meiji Period, each
decorated in brightly colored enamels with butterflies hovering above
various types of flowering chrysanthemum bushes, all silhouetted against a
mirror black ground, stylized floral bands encircling the shoulder, waisted at the
neck and above the flaring foot, and wide abstract foliate bands at the rim and
foot (slight damage to the foot)...

The handle is bronze patinated metal and mounted on a sturdy "bark on" hickory shaft with a long ferrule. The cane dates to the very early 19th century. It is in great condition for its age! Note: This cane never had glass eyes. Circa 1800. Condition (Excellent). Size 38" L.

Tibetan Himalayan Match Striker, Coral and Turquoise natural stones set in the embossed and high relief decorated hard Silver and Brass borders on Yak Skin Leather, 3 5/8" high without ring, 6" wide steel striker. The heavy hard Silver top is also decorated with fine designs which shows the wear. Six metal buttons are studded on the back, surrounded with decorated Hard Silver borders. The leather inside is dyed light red color. The condition is good.
