Jingdezhen's monopoly on porcelain production was broken in 1616 when Japanese potters at Arita figured out how to produce their own porcelain wares...

This is a very fine Dr. Wall Worcester sparrow beak cream jug, dating from the 1765-1768 period. The pattern features brightly painted pomegranates in various stages of development. There is only one other example of this pattern recorded: a coffee cup that was theorized to have been made as a replacement for a Chinese teaset, and was offered in one of the Zorensky sales...

An extremely fine example of a saltglaze plate with a scalloped rim and a molded, or embossed, border.

The diameter is 9 1/4" and the condition is excellent with no chips, cracks, or restoration. There are 3 very minor small brown spots on the front due to kiln impurities. It is very unusual to find them in this condition...

A nice quality early Eighteenth century Japanese Imari export bowl decorated in underglaze blue, kinsai gilding and iron red. An unusual rhomboid quadrilobed form dish decorated with a landscape of islands with Pagodas within a lake or estuarine setting conceivably a composition based on the “Eight views of the Xiao and the Xiang rivers”, Shosho hakkei. The design produced largely through the use of a stencil with additional applications of wash. The technique of using paper stencils, katagamni zuri, to reproduce patterns was also used at the Nabeshima kiln...

Head of Buddha, its face with eyes almost closed reflecting a profound inner serenity. Wood, with numerous layers of polychrome pigments, lacquering and gilding. China, early 18th century, probably earlier. Height: 32 cm. The head is not mounted. Some flaking, otherwise very good condition.

This is a superb English MSAT wine glass with a vermicular collar. It is a pair with item g1252 and matches g1251, though that glass is considerably and uncommonly larger. The glass for sale in this listing is shown on the right in the first photo.

An elegant and beautiful lead Jacobite toasting glass engraved by "Engraver B" in Seddon's book. The drawn trumpet bowl has a 6 petal rose, an open rose bud to its left, and a closed rose bud to its right.

Over the years there have been various interpretations of these symbols, and even now it can be argued that the rose represents either the Crown of England or James, the Old Pretender...

A fine Kakiemion dish painted in sometsuke style with a Fuyo-de pattern with four landscape vignettes in European style adapted from a Delft original attributed to Fredrick van Frytom (see image no 6) which in turn provided elements of the so-called Deshima or Scheveningen with contrasting panels of stylised Peonies, Botan karakusa. Chinese Blue and White Dish decorated in underglaze blue with a Dutch river scene. A copy of the Japanese Arita C1700 dishes decorated with a version of the design by the Dutch Delft decorator Frederik Van Frytom. The English Bow factory also copied this design in the mid 18thC. Qianlong C1740/50. Diameter 4 3/4" (12.1cm) Perfect condition.

This is kanjin-sumo rikishi tsutsugaki nobori textile of the Edo era. It is very very rare textile. It has a thin stain. However, it does not stand out. It has slight damage. However, it is good condition generally. size:190cm x 41cm (74.8" x 16.1")

This 18th century wood Iwabe shells netsuke is 2 inches long and 1 ¾ inches wide. It is not signed, slightly worn but in great condition.

Georgian ring of green paste in a basket setting flanked by two clear pastes on each side. Paste is colored or clear glass, often lead or flint, cut in the same fashion as gemstones and used as a substitute especially while traveling. Antique paste jewelry was valued on its own merits and not as an imitation of another piece of jewelry. This Georgian 15K gold, green paste ring is a size 7 1/2 and can be sized. It measures 1/4" at its widest.
