Sikes Hydrometer by Husbands and Clarke, Bristol, England in its original mahogany box. 19th century. The Sikes Hydrometer was used to determine the alcohol content of spirits in determining its proof. This set includes a brass float, thermometer, and 10 weights used to measure the specific gravity of the liquid (labeled 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, plus the calibration cap weight)...

The reason why this bowl is so rare is the fact, that nearly all bowls of this kind of Medallion bowls are " Doucai " bowls on that the underglaze Cobalt - blue outlines of the decoration are filled with overglaze enamels. Sometimes there are also to find such bowls that do show the underglaze blue outlines only, which are for whatever reason still not filled with overglaze enamels. The decoration of such pieces somehow give an " incomplete impression"...

Very old and wonderful carved wood figure of the buddhist god Fudo Myoo, he stands with laso in one hand and sword in the other, made of wood with mineral pigments, glass eyes, metal details including sword, large and dramatic with fire nimbus, Muromachi Period, inscription on the back of nimbus says Yuwayadera (name of temple), nimbus is signed that it was restored by Minamoto Haruhisa April 16, 1560. Size: 62" high

This is a Limoges cabinet plate, ca. 1890, bearing the Limoges mark of the Coiffe porcelain factory as well as that of Guerin-Pouyat-Elite; featuring molded borders in pale pink within gilt rims and centered with a delicately handpainted spray of lilacs; condition: excellent, no chips, cracks, or crazing; gilt on rims is faded; measurement: 9 inches diam.

It is a thick indigo dyed cotton noren that looks like a very nice folding screen of Taisho era. It is a very auspicious pine, bamboo, plum and crane, turtle design. There is a faint fading part, but overall it is in very good condition. On the far right is the name and date of the orderer for this noren. There is a family crest of the house. Ch¨­sen Karatsu (³¯õrÌƽò) Chawan with a fantastic vivid glaze. It dates from the late Edo Period, no cracks, no repairs.

This traditional style was introduced by one or more potters brought from the Joseon Dynasty during the Japanese invasions of Korea. It features a black glaze placed under a white glaze which has been fired with straw. The two glazes run together and give a feeling of opposites.

Very unusual 19th century lacquered wood netsuke of eagle talons clutching a tama (Precious Gem). Beautifully carved out of dark dense wood (probably kurogaki - black persimmon), gold lacquer highlights to the folds of the talons, tama is lacquered in Negoro style - red lacquer over black, so as it wears the black and later wood start showing. Beautiful wear and patina. Length 1.7 inches.

This pretty floral spoon, by the well-known Unger Brothers, is signed with their maker’s mark, hallmark, and “COPYRIGHT 1904”. The pattern is Jonquil, which is the flower for those born in March, representing friendship and happiness. The spoon measures 4-1/2”, and the bowl of the spoon is a little bit under 2” across. A lovely blue/green ancient Egyptian Scarab, more than 2,300 years old, from the famous Mitry collection (see our Homepage). It is 1/2” long (12 mm) and made of steatite, an easy-to-carve stone that hardens when heated. A classic Baccarat cut crystal perfume bottle in a cranberry-cut-to-clear cane pattern. While several American and European companies cut this pattern, the stopper of this bottle is a known Baccarat design. It appeared in a Baccarat pattern book under the name “Stella.” The stopper has a blown teardrop in the interior and is accented with a star pattern at the top. Baccarat products were marked only with a paper label until logo until around 1930.
