This is a late Qing dynasty pufu or surcoat with a rank badge. The pufu is make of silk gauze or kesi for the summer and a heavier satin-silk, sometimes lined with fur, for the winter. The rank badge with the embroidered silvery pheasant is that of a fifth grade or rank of the civil official. It is represented as standing on the pedestal rock facing and looking towards the sun, the imperial symbol of authority...

This pair of boots were made for the child of a wealthy Han family of the late Qing dynasty. They were made from a pale peach colored silk fabric and hand embroidered with silk thread using a satin stitch. The color on lower part of the boots, especially on the outside, has faded to a soft golden color. This would be due to sun exposure during use as the upper part of the boots would be covered by the childs pant legs...

A bronze okimono of an owl, constructed in two sections, the short-eared owl (detachable) perched on a tree branch with its head cocked quizzically to the right and its wings folded at its sides; signed on one side of the branch Seimin chu within a rectangular reserve, by Murata Seimin (村田製眠, 1761-1837)

Patented 1878 and marked with a T dating it from 1891-1902, this server by Tiffany & Co. is done in the "Olympian" pattern. The scene depicted on the handle is "Venus born of the sea." The bottom portion is gilded on both the front and back. The intricate work continues to the face on the back of the handle and it is monogrammed at the top (please see picture # 8). It measures approximately 11.25" long and 3" at its widest. It is in excellent condition, and the overall weight is 205.3 grams.

Ca. 1700s / early 1800s

This circular box is lacquered in brownish black with mother of pearl inlay encircling the lid which is well-fitted to the bottom box. The top is painted in slightly-raised gilt lacquer with two characters: “fu” and “shou,” for happiness and longevity. There is light wear to the edges of the lid, inner rims and to the base, as would be expected, and also a few minor touch-ups...

This is an ANTIQUE STERLING DRESDEN BERRY SPOON or SERVING SPOON by WHITING, Division of GORHAM. This late Victorian Spoon has a Beautiful FLORAL DESIGN on the Handle both front and back. The Bowl has an "Embossed" beaded design. Length is 7 1/2"; bowl measures 2 5/8" X 3". Date this Serving Spoon 1896 and clearly marked 1896(see jpgs). This matched pair of ivory carvings of birds resting on a plum tree was completed in the mid or late 19th century. They depict long tail birds resting on old plum tree trunk. Their heads are turned in an interesting pose. They are 10” high (11 ½” high with hard wood base), 2 ¼” wide and 2” in depth. The carvings have a very nice patina. Aside from one hair line crack on the bottom of one of the trees, they are in great condition.

The motif of an elephant with a vase on its back has an auspicious meaning of "peaceful times (taiping youxiang 太平有象 - when there is peace, there are signs)". This motif was popular in Qing Dynasty, we date this one to 19th century. The elephant is in perfect condition. Length:9-1/2"; height: 9-1/2".

Sometimes assumed by Westerners as "medical models" these are Chinese fertility dolls. As ritual items, they rarely come onto the market. Used by several Chinese ethnic minority cultures, including the Miao, Yao and Naxi, the old fertility dolls were hand carved, anatomically correct and with pegged and jointed limbs. The hair styles and head gear would vary depending on the minority group...

Very unusual bronze statue of Mandarin, mounted, 19th Century, rare piece, good condition, base shows some climatic wear. Size H. 7.5" x W. 2.75" x D. 7.5"

A pair of silk applique roundels for a robe, lavishly embroidered in satin stitch, tiny Peking knot and couched gold wrapped thread. One showing two boys at play, the other one depicting the immortal He Xiangu with attendant in a boat amidst flowers and auspicious symbols. Condition: slightly stained, the one with the boys has traces of former humidity, especially from behind. Dimension: 23.5 cm diameter.

An unusual leather box lacquered red on the outside. There is writing on the inside of the box. The writing might be to identify the item or the manufacturer. Size: L.43cm. W. 11cm. H. 6.5cm. Condition: No repairs. Some chips on the lacquer from age.
