This rare tortoise shell carved RuYi (scepter) is a mid-19th century product. It is 13 ½” long and 3 1/2” wide from the widest part (head of the scepter). There are fourteen cranes carved in relief flying in coiled lucky clouds. The pattern repeats and covers the entire handle and head. It is in excellent condition. More photos are available.

Small dish in Chinese porcelain, green enamel decoration of lotus flowers, tendrils and bats, details in black. Two Chinese characters "Shou" are enameled in red and gold. All this symbolizes longevity (shou), happiness (bat) and Buddha (lotus). However the Lotus flower is not exclusively the symbol of Buddhism, it can also be interpreted here as the marital agreement because there are 2 flowers or serenity or self-fulfillment. Everyone will interpret according to their desires...

This superb late 19th century export ivory carving is 11 ¾” high, 4 ½” wide and 3 ¾” thick. It depicts daily activity in a small village. There are houses, temples and pagodas surrounded by a river, a forest of pine trees and mountains. There is an old repair on a pine tree, some small losses and several hairline cracks on the top of the tusk. Considering its age, it is in great condition.

Rather unusual late 19th century miniature Chinese Shoushan soapstone carving of a snarling chimera seated on a base. Superb carving, rare excellent quality butterscotch color stone, great patina. Neat hole in the base for hanging. Wonderful object for a scholar’s desk. Height 0.68 inches (17.5 mm).

19th century Japanese Asakusa school staghorn kiseruzutsu - tobacco pipe case - carved with a scholarly landscape with a temple among hills and rocks by a pine tree, and a village in the distance. Clever carving incorporating porous texture of its center as element of design, nicely chunky. Beautiful wear and patina, in great condition. Length 8 inches.

A rare huanghuali wood Chinese "violin" called an erhu. The main body and neck are carved from a single piece of huanghuali wood, its top stretched with snake skin of beautiful patterning. The bottom of the main body has a sound hole with an openwork carving of a stylized "shou" character meaning longevity (this bottom panel is a separate piece of huanghuali)...

This Tea Bowl (Chawan) in the style of Kenzan is decorated in white slip and underglaze iron.

It is in excellent condition, there is a tiny chip on the lip but no other damage and no repairs. It dates from the late Edo Period.

A pair of blue and white Hirado oil jars or bottles of squat shape, Meiji period, c 1900. Molded decoration of Paulownia leaves in reserves and an under-glaze blue diaper (grid) pattern. One with a cork stopper crowned by a small silver bird. Height: "2 ¼ /6 cm, diameter: "3 ¾ / 9 cm. Condition: small glaze crack near the mouth to one jar, otherwise fine.

Skillfully crafted Shino ware Tea Bowl (Chawan) for tea ceremony made in 19 century by anonymous potter.

Shino ware is produced in today's Gifu prefecture since 16th century and it is distinguished by thick white glazes, red marks and the surface of small holes.

This pair of late 19th century export Sancai Foo lions are 9 7/8” high (male Foo lion is a little shorter), 3 ¾” wide and 2 ¼” thick. One front paw of each lion rests on a globe; the female has a cub on her back. They are in excellent condition.

Heavy and solidly potted Chinese Qing dynasty baluster form porcelain jar decorated in the transitional style in underglaze blue with lotus flower heads among dense scrolling foliage set against a white ground. Circa 1860, cylindrical Chinese Yixing red stoneware teapot with dished flat cover and loose iron wire swing handles. Brightly decorated in colored enamels with a phoenix bird amongst lotus and foliage. The teapot has various stamped and incised marks, one on the lid, one on base bottom, and 2 incised marks on the pot exterior just under the handle on the side opposite the spout. Measures 5.25 inches high; length including spout 7"...

19th century netsuke carved as a group of four seals - two of simple square section, one in a shape of a natural lotus bud stem (its stem serving as himotoshi), and one with shishi and ball finial. Elegant design in Japanese taste, bottoms are carved with raised and sunken characters in seal script and stained to resemble real seals - one of them could be a signature of the carver. Possibly made for a silk merchant - the seals resemble actual chops used for stamping silks...

19th century Persian silver melon shape salt shaker with repousse branch on top surrounded by a band of small flowers, and with pendant drapery in every sector of the bottom part. Last quarter of 19th century, Qajar dynisty era, very well made, two parts fit snugly, in excellent vintage condition, nicely tarnished (can be cleaned with silver tarnish remover in a minute if needed).
