19th century kagamibuta (“mirror lid”) netsuke with metal plate depicting Okame leaning on a large screen as she grabs the belt of an escaping oni who is carrying a large mushroom in its hand. The netsuke is of shunga type with mushroom bearing not so subtle sexual connotation. Superb quality work with multi-metal inlays and gilding, wonderful faces, great detailing of robe pattern and pine saplings and rising sun on the screen, oni’s left foot is an old loss...

Early 19th century boxwood netsuke of a man carrying a cloth bundle on its back with a boy’s head sticking out of it, while a huge dragonfly landed on the father’s sleeve. Wood is lacquered in Negoro style - red lacquer over black, so as it wears the black starts showing, and then the wood. The fronts of his feet have been reattached, repair is done very well, the figure stands on its own. Excellent faces, beautifully worn, really nice feel of age to the piece. Height 2 3/16 inches.

A rare comical stoneware lidded jar in the shape of a blowfish by Mark V. Marshall for Doulton Lambeth, circa 1885. This globular vessel stands on three fin feet and the lid has a fin shaped handle. A rare large antique Japanese Kuruma Tansu (wheeled chest) made of solid quartered sawn Keyaki (zelkova) wood with hand forged iron hardware and wooden wheels. Sliders are made of burl keyaki hardwood. The upper portion of the chest has a large compartment opened by sliding panels with horizontal slats and a heavy hand forged iron latch. The bottom portion has two large drawers. Gorgeous original finish with beautiful patina.

Beautiful little antique French hinged box with blue enameling and gold gilt over bronze. Featuring a miniature portrait that is surrounded by ornate reticulation which in turn is accented with glass faux rubies and faux lapis lazuli. The blue enamel ground in the portrait matches the darker blue surround trim. Velvet lined, this makes a perfect little box to protect that special piece of jewelry. Measures 3 3/8" across, 2 3/4" deep, and 1 inch high. Dates circa 1880.

A rare pale green Dutch or German roemer with a large cup bowl above a wide hollow stem flaring out to a folded foot. Immediately beneath the bowl is an applied milled collar above a section with applied strawberry prunts, below which is another collar.

This huge example is 8" tall, with a bowl diameter of 5" and a foot diameter of 4 1/2". The condition is excellent, with no cracks chips, mineral deposits, restoration, or other problems.
