Chinese blanc de chine porcelain statue of Quan Yin, the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion. Her name is short for Guanshiyin, meaning "Observing the Cries of the World." She stands upon strong, rolling winds and holds a lotus flower in her left hand. Burmese painting done on a large, cloth canvas, likely depicting the Jataka tales, or stories of Buddha, with nine separate panels, each depicting a different tale of Buddha's previous lives. The very center painting shows Buddha sitting in a lotus position with two attendants at his sides, their hands clasped in prayer to him, and it is the only panel that does not have any Burmese script in white paint...

The saddle seat is Leather and decorated with small tuffs of wool yarn and strips of flat metal (presumed low grade silver) which are embed into the leather in an ornate geometric design.

I replaced the tie which secured the front of the seat to the metal saddle tree...the original cord was literally falling apart...Limited research indicates this saddle was from Rajastan India.

This stoneware dish is shaped in the form of an oval tray with straight walls, raised on four molded feet. It is glazed overall with a semi-transparent brownish-amber glaze with areas of faint purples and reds. In the center of the print there is a young child, hunched forward as he eagerly listens to stories from an adult woman in a pink kimono with blue and grey sleeves, with a sheathed sword across her lap. Mask of the "Nuo" esoteric theater representing the character of Heshang, the Buddhist monk, with very expressive features. The mask was carved on wood, then paper was affixed all over its surface, on which polychrome pigments were painted. China, early 19th century, probably earlier. Height: 9 13/16" (25 cm).
