Omizutori (お水取り), or the annual, sacred water-drawing festival, is a Japanese Buddhist festival that takes place in the Nigatsu-dō of Tōdai-ji, Nara, Japan. This ceremony is to cleanse the people of their sins as well as to usher in the spring of the new year. A Qing Celadon Censer. Diameter approximately 8.5 cm and height approximately 8.8 cm. Decorated with curve lines, diamond shape lines and covered with good green glaze. Good condition.

A set of three carvings of three different types of birds. One appears to be a falcon and another a magpie like species. Each bird has been carefully carved and painted making birds to look alive. Age: 20th century. Size: length 3.75" width 1.6" height 2.25"

Fine George III Book Form Desk Box in mahogany with satinwood stringing and rosewood banding with two inlaid oval shell form patterae on the top and two small drawers that form the faux spine. Chawan, tea bowl to be used in the tea ceremony, of distorted oval shape (kutsu or clog, or shoe-shape). Thick cream-colored stoneware that turned red during firing in the unglazed area, covered with a translucent greenish ash glaze that collected in the bottom and around the rim and is very thin around the sides. The sides are ‘rough’, giving a look into the clay.

Antique Japanese fireman's helmet, or kaji kabuki. Made from iron and copper plated, with red lacquer front bill incised with smoke clouds. Beautiful lotus shaped finial details the top of the helmet. Round kanji emblems on its sides. Iron display stand is also included. Original finish and condition. Comes with custom Iron Stand for safe proper display.

During the Qing Dynasty, Chinese court gentlemen and ladies used elaborate hair styles. To assist in these construction of the "hairdo's", they used a wire form was covered with a mesh fabric. This particular "cap" was used to cover a bun of hair on the center of the head. The silver flat "hairpin" was used to hold the cap in place by pushing it through one side hole, between the hair bun and the scalp and through the other side hole. The inside of the cape clearly shows its age and use.

Chinese painted pottery cocoon jar painted with swirling design with red, blue, and white pigments. The cocoon jar is sometimes called a "duck-egg jar", used as a wine vessel during Han Dynasty.

19th century staghorn ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) carved in a shape of a ceramic sake jar with high shoulders and wide top, pierced and decorated with geometric designs. Clever elegant design in Japanese taste, beautiful staghorn texture, in great condition. Height 9/16 inches.

This Japanese red lacquered wooden serving platter or tray is 13 inches in diameter. It is carved as a bream, which is the Japanese fish symbol for the "bounty of the sea". There are several layers of different colors of red lacquer which heighten the fluid appearence of the fish. The surface is slightly dulled with use and age, the charger is in wonderful condition.

This is a beautiful old Chinese necklace made out of genuine natural corals. The color is salmon pink. Approx. 63.5cm (25 inches) long and weigh 66.3 grams. The measurements of the center coral are: 1.4cm x 1.7cm in diameter. Circa 1930.

A Chinese silver shield-shaped presentation plaque engraved with good wishes, mounted to conforming hardwood shield carved at crest with stylized flower and with easel support on the back. Silver plaque with indistinct mark. Condition: good, minimally dented at the edges. Dimension: 27.8 cm x 20. 6 cm, weight: 716 g.

This very unusual Kyoto ware chawan is decorated in underglaze blue on a buff stoneware body.

The motifs are very odd and present mysterious pictures a poetic calligraphy.

Inside are 5 spur marks indicating that these bowls were stacked inside each other in the kiln. A previous owner has obviously been very attached to the bowl as it has several fine "kintsugi" gold lacquer repairs.

The Teabowl was made in Edo Period at the end of the 18th. century...
