Gosho-ningyô or 'Palace Dolls' are among the most distinctive of the many Japanese doll forms. They were originally given as gifts within the imperial family. This fine example of a chubby boy holding a rope has a classic expression and playful posture. It is made of solid clay covered with gofun (oyster shell lacquer) with painted features and painted vest and a brocade bib. Height: 7.5 inches, 19 cm.

Pair of early 19th century Japanese sword menuki depicting what appears to be different proverbs. The first one llustrates a sentence “A gourd against a catfish” meaning useless effort similar to trying to catch a slippery fish with a gourd. The other one depicts a puzzled man scratching his head by a samurai spear - I am not sure what this particular story is. Elegant design, bronze and shakudo with silvering and gilding, overall in great condition. Length 1 9/16 inches.

This is an indigo dyeing cotton kimono used in Kyoto. As for this, cotton is spun by hand. This cotton is thick. This is dyed with a beautiful natural indigo plant. This indigo plant is a good indigo plant cultivated in Kyoto. This has a few stains to a chest and a collar, but does not stand out. This is the very good state that does not include damage. 12 Lenox Porcelain encrusted wide Gold Rim Plates with white Berries, made for "Tiffany & Co.", Ca. 1915, 10 1/2" diameter, encrusted gold leafy vines with white Berry, marked "Lenox, Tiffany & Co." in green on the bottom, and marked "X 10 1/2"/F49" in gold upper bottom area next to bottom rim. There is a small chip on the bottom rim and some worn spots on wide inner gold rim.

Ikat sarong from the upland Karen (Pwo or Sgaw) ethnic group in Northern Thailand. This is woven from all handspun cotton thread and natural dyes. Acquired in the 1980s, it has never been used and as such may be described as being in pristine original condtion. The cloth coming these people nowadays, are nowhere near this quality. W: 87cm/34in and L: 152cm/61in.

Early 20th Century Chinese celadon jade carving of lotus pods bursting with seeds. Excellent condition, measures 2.5” long x 1.5” wide x 1” high

A fine tinsel, or foil, painting. The relatively uncommon subject matter is a basket of fruit, nicely reverse painted on glass with tinsel backing. What unfortunately doesn't show well in the photo, because of the lighting, is the bunch of grapes directly under the basket.

The painting is in very good condition, with what is probably its original gilded frame and wood backing. The overall size is 16" by 14".

A pair of Burmese wooden seated disciples, with calm facial expression, lacquered and gilded with inlay of colorful glass pieces on the borders of the robes, one of them sitting in adoration posture with two hands attached to each other indicating respectful manner. Traces of original lacquer and gilding remain in excellent condition.

A rare underglaze blue decorated porcelain coffee can (cup) attractively painted in Chinese taste and made for export to Europe, circa 1725-1750, during the reign of either the Yongzheng or Qianlong emperors.
