Architectural element --- probably the end of a beam --- carved in the shape of a stylized lion. Wood, with fine dark brown patina. Nepal, 18th century, maybe earlier. Length: 22 cm. Height: 10.5 cm. The back of the element was partly attacked by insects, but there is no more danger. The element is nicely counted on a custom stand. Good condition.

This is a fine old Antique Chinese charger. It is done in a pattern rarely seen. Look close at the images and you will see the old orange peel surface texture. The charger has no cracks or chips. This porcelain demitasse cup and saucer was produced in England by Doulton Burslem in the 1890s. It is made of bone china and has molded decorations and an ornate handle. The decoration is known as “Spanish Lace”. Fine gilding is accented with raised enamel beading and hand painted flowers. The pattern covers the entire surface of both pieces. The rims and handle are gilded. It has a unique shape and Victorian charm.

From our Chinese Polychrome Collection, a charming and unpretentious Famille Rose teacup and saucer, Qianlong Period (1736-1795), most likely late Qianlong 1760-1785, decorated in a delicate floral pattern in Famille Rose palette, with a Batavian Brown (iron oxide) dressing on the reverse.
Size and Condition: The saucer is 5 inches in diameter, the teacup 2 7/8 inches across, 1 1/2 inches tall. Small inconsequential nick to footrim of teacup essentially perfect.

A rare sake-daru (Sake Keg) made of piled woven bamboo in combination with Japanese red lacquered pine. This tsuno-daru has two horn-like staves with inscriptions, a cross piece forming a carrying handle, and a wooden plug that pulls out. This saki barrel dates pre 1920. Sake casks such as this were prepared by sake factories to be used for special ceremonial occasions in the late 19th to the early 20th centuries. In excellent condition, it measures 21” tall and 7” in diameter.

Fantastic antique teapot with inscribed poem and signature attributed to Otagaki Rengetsu (1791-1875)
Rengetsu Otagaki (1791-1875) was Buddhist nun who is widely regarded to have been one of the greatest Japanese poets of the 19th century.
She was also a skilled potter and painter and expert calligrapher and adorned her ceramics with poems written in her unique calligraphic style.

This porcelain tea cup and saucer was produced in England by Copeland between 1851 and 1885. The saucer measures 4 3/4 inches square and the cup is 2 inches high. The set is made of fine, white bone china. It is molded in a modified square shape. The ground color is a deep cobalt blue. It is decorated with an ornate encrusted raised gold design. The hand painted decoration is finely detailed and contrasts elegantly with the cobalt blue ground. The shape is unusual and most attractive.

A lovely European bronze Sun dial, carved in a fine renaissance style and dated 1635, but Victorian, English manifacture of the late 19th. century.
The sun dial very elaborate with engraved birds on either side of a Griffin center shade, with a brass spike, othervise in bronze. Inscribed with Roman numbers and dated 1635. Finely patinated in red and dark bronze and in perfect condition.

This porcelain tea cup and suacer was produced in Bohemia by Pirkenhammer in the 1890s. The saucer has a diameter of 5 ½ inches and the cup is 2 inches high. The rim of the saucer and the foot of the cup are reticulated. The set has a wine colored ground color with reserves of gilded urns filled with colorful flowers. The hand painting and raised gilding has fine detail. The rims and handle are trimmed with gold. The set is quite Victorian with a European feel.

This elaborate antique embroidery panel is from Gujrat India and would have been used as a dowery quilt. It is backed with soft aged (now muted) cotton fabric, leaving a 4 inch border surrounding the embroidery.
