This is an extremely rare cloisonne masterpiece. It was created by one of the great Meiji artists, Ogasawara Shuzo. It is also a very large piece for cloisonne, at 14 3/4 inches wide and 7 tall. It probably weighs over 10 lbs. The entire dragon is raised relief. This is an eye catching piece that truly belongs in a Museum. Condition is excellent.

An unusually small and rare antique Japanese Cha Tansu (tea chest) made of Kuwa (Mulberry) and Kuri (Chestnut) woods. All original bronze hardware. Two sliding doors behind which tea accessories were stored. A lift-out door behind which housed a tea canister of dried tea leaves ready for brewing. With four drawers of varying sizes to store additional tea accoutrements.

A must have for any lotus shoe collector. This iron was used for pressing lotus shoes. The thin curved end was useful for getting into the toe area. Made of iron, it is somewhat rusty-i.e. pleasantly aged. Length tip to tip is 13"

Ivory netsuke depicting a monk intent on decisively cutting an Oni horn using a large knife. The act itself suggests a struggle between good and evil. Shōkusai signature with engraving under the base. Period: Edo 19th century Dimensions: 4.5 x 2.9 x 1.9 cm. Conservation status: Excellent condition

This pair of Chinese lotus shoes were made by a woman of limited finances. She bought what materials were needed for the vamp and supplemented with the use of rough home spun fabric scraps to cover the shaped heals and soles. The limited amount of expensive gold couching threads outlining the floral embroidery pattern on each side of the shoes indicates that this pair of lotus shoes would have used only for special occasions...

Antique Chinese porcelain bowl of a thin form, with gilt rim and yellow enamel inner rim with peaches and lucky bats. The inside center has a red dragon with gilt accenting. The outer body of the bowl has two colorful powder blue and pink-red dragons flying over waters. The bottom of the bowl is marked Guangxu period (1875-1908). Very small loss on rim. Japanese antique single section isho tansu (clothing chest) made with dramatic keyaki (elm) wood burl on the front and sugi (cryptomeria) frame. The tansu is has a beautiful translucent light color lacquer finish on the front. The sides and top are lacquered a more opaque deep reddish brown.
