Antique Chinese set of four (4) porcelain plaques in hardwood frames. Each plaque has a short poem and is signed by the artist Cheng Yi Ting (1895-1948). Two adorable small birds appear on each plaque surrounded by lotuses. Size : 16.25" height, 9.25" width

Antique Chinese jadeite carving of a dragon and a phoenix face to face with pierced details, crosshatch feathers and spirals on the dragon's body. 19th Century in original untreated condition. Size: 2.25" L

The bowl and cover with moulded panels of shi-shi and botan, peony flowers. All against an underglaze blue karakusa ground. The cover is surmounted by a seated shi-shi.

Unusually, the coloured decoration appears to have been applied in Europe, not as ‘clobbering’ but in reserves left blank for just such painting...

A small, most beautiful and very rare vase. Fine shugary white porcelain body, covered with an translucent Aquamarin-coloured glaze. Song Dynasty, 12th - 13th century. H : 6,8 cm. Condition : Perfect. ( It seems there is a small missed area to the irregularly shaped, unglazed foot-area. The glazed area of the vase is in an absolutely perfect condition.)

According to Karl Schwartz, in his book 'Netsuke Subjects', Kappa is a Goblin who lived in rivers, having a body resembling a frog with a carapace like a turtle. Its head is similar to that of a Monkey with a cavity on top which must always be filled with water. It is mischievous and is often in love with young girls...

An antique Japanese tansu chest called Bodansu (chest with locking bar) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. It originates from the southern island of Kyushu. This extraordinary piece depicting two shishi guardian lions locked in playful combat, is done in fine white porcelain from the Arita region of Japan.

Guardian lions (alternately known as Shishi, Foo-dogs, or Koma-inu) were introduced to Japan in the 8th century and are often seen outside shrine gates or adorning rooftop shingles. When seen in pairs, one typically has its mouth open (the male) while the other’s is shut (the female)...

This is a superbly carved, late 19th Century, wood netsuke depicting a seated cross-legged man, his chin rested on his folded arms, with an anxious look on his face, as he receives the Moxa treatment. The man has a tobacco pouch with coral inlays, a pipe holder, and a kagamibuta coral inlaid netsuke resting on his folded legs. Curiously, the man also sports a black and red coral dot inlays on his left and right shoulders, respectively...

This generously proportioned chawan (16cm in diameter) shows nice age, especially around the kodai, and likely dates from the early to mid 20th century. The base is unglazed showing the rich molded clay, contrasting nicely with the maroon and black glaze pooled beautifully around the edges. The badarai (horse watering basin) shape is very attractive and in this case especially fitting given the uncommonly large proportions...

Korean ceramic bowl from the Goryeo dynasty, 12-14th century. The interior of the bowl is decorated with ducks and willow trees encircling the well which is embellished with blossoms. The exterior is decorated with a band of scrolling waves, flanking floral roundels. Old restoration. It measures 7.75" wide.
