Unusual antique French Limoges gold trimmed porcelain oyster plate depicting different sea grasses. In excellent condition, it measures 9.5" diameter.
NOTE: A very interesting technique was used to create the effect of underwater movement. They 1st printed the image in light green, then printed the same image in dark pink over it, but slightly offset. Where the images overlapped, it created a 3rd color, brown, which establishes the main part of the plant.

Recent research clearly indicates that highly advanced city cultures allready existed in the Ubaid period of Anatolia and Syria in the early 4th. millenium BC and perhaps even before that. This predates the Mesopotamian Uruk period, so it's a question who inspired who?.

Antique Japanese low table made all of carved keyaki (elm) wood. The top is made of a single piece of dramatically grained wood with the edges carved to create a gnarled burl effect. The legs are also made of solid keyaki wood and carved with rounded feet. Original deep orangish red translucent lacquer finish.

A richly enameled and well modeled Kannon seated upon a purple scrolled tailed beast of green. Measuring 10" in height and 10" in length, the figure is well preserved. There is a chip to the right foot of the Kannon and three enamel flakes to the hair. No cracks or repairs.

Cotton cloth with tsutsugaki flower motifs which is hand-spun and vegetable indigo dye. Sutra book clasp cast in the shape of an H, with a Tibetan "dorje" (or "vajra") placed horizontally at its center. Square opening at top and bottom for attachment. Bronze, with partly encrusted greenish patina. Tibet, 17th century, maybe earlier. Height: 1 5/8" (4,2 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Erosion due to great age, otherwise good condition. Note: such implement was used to lock the straps that kept a "sutra" book (a book containing Buddhist texts) closed.

Chinese elm wood square low table in a natural finish with two deep drawers each on two alternating sides. Brass hardware appears to be original. Late 19th century. 19 5/8"H x 31 3/4" square. There is an old narrow moon shaped burn on the top (see enlargement 3) and there are a few small separations in the wood on the top from shrinkage. This piece is from a Tucson collection and was purchased by expatriates to Taiwan in the 1980's.

This is the rarest cricket cage of its kind to be found, as it is made of tortoise shell, the cap is possible horn and is capped with mother-of-pearl shell on which is a carved four toed dragon that covers a solid gold wire mesh to prevent the naughty cricket from escaping. This cricket cage is in very good antique condition and measures 4" (10.2 cm).
